TO: Mendota Heights Park & Recreation Commission
GATE: October 70 1986
FROM: Oick Putnam, Tandem Corporation
SUBJECT: Neighborhood Playground - Copperfield/King
The issue of neighborhood recreation space for the southeast area of the city
has been discussed, studied and planned over the last year. We would like to
focus on the playground issue for the existing and proposed neighborhood of
Copperfield and the King property.
Tandem Corporation and Lyman Lumber Companies have developed Copperfield's
at Phase of 55 lots and hope to begin the 2nd Addition of 53 lots this fall and
next spring. Tandem Corporation has also signed a purchase agreement with
Mr. and Mrs. King for the purchase of about 38 acres north of future Mendota
Heights Road.
Based upon reports by Barton -Ashman and Howard Dahlgren our planning for
the King property has illustrated a 6± acre playground to serve Copperfield and
60± lots of the King site.
The alternate sites for the playground were:
1 . Adjacent to Huber Drive on the Copperfield/King property line.
2. South of the ponds on King property.
On the
Copperfield
2nd Addition plat an outlot
was reserved adjacent to Huber
Drive if
that was to
be the playground site.
The attached
plan illustrates the
playground at
location
112 south of the ponds
and includes:
two tennis courts,
tat let, hard
surface area, trail connections
to City trails
and Copperfield sidewalk system, and
informal
game field space.
We ask that the Commission consider the proposed sites and in conjunction with
other city commissions, staff, neighbors and land owners decide what site would
best serve the playground function for the area.
