There were too many conflicts in trying to change the meeting to another night. Since there are no urgent matters at hand, the February meeting will be cancelled and our next meeting will be on March 25, 1980, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Please take note of the enclosed copy of the memo regarding Dewey Selander's salary. The City Council approved this action on February 19th. Mary Mills Chairperson enc. CITY OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS MEMO February 13, 1980 TO: City Council PROM: Orvi1 J. Johnson City Administrator SUBJECT: Dewey Selander - Mileage Expense Dewey Selander has been Recreation Director for Mendota Heights for about seven years. During this period of time he has received a part-time salary, supposedly commensurate for the time and responsibilities needed to conduct the Recreation program. He has never received compensation for the use of his car and other personal equipment. His salary for 1980 is the 1979 salary plus 8%, or $5,7780 Mary Mills, of the Park and Recreation Commission requested that his total compensation be reviewed. In discussing this matter with Dewey it seemed that he was reasonably satisfied with his compensation, however the cost of transportation was not being adequately covered. I asked Dewey to submit a breakdown of miles driven. He gave me a reasonable looking schedule broken down in serving the skating rinks, the spring volleyball, the summer program, the beach, etc. It appears that Dewey drives approximately 200 miles per month on an average. I am proposing that we pay Dewey a mileage expense of $25.00 per month. This would figure out to approximately 12C per mile which may not quite compensatefor the total cost of mileage but would fairly reflect the difference in automobile costs during the past 7 years. This $300 per year is fundable within the Park and Recreation budget and I recommend that he be authorized such a travel expense of $25.00 per month effective for February, 1980.
