Keeping our roadways in top operation
Thank you to the Public Works team for their work over the summer. From large
improvement projects to maintenance repairs, their continued efforts keep the community's
roadways safe and operational.
A day of remembrance
Friday, September 11, 2020 marks the 19 year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on
the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93 which
crashed in suburban Pennsylvania. Patriot Day serves as a remembrance of the lives lost
on that September morning. As a reminder flags should be lowered to half-staff for the
entire day.
Seeking volunteers to serve on the skatepark study
subcommittee
The Parks and Recreation Commission is establishing a subcommittee to look at the short-
term operational challenges at Rogers Lake's skatepark area, and to develop a plan that
could identify longer term capital maintenance and improvement options. The study group
will be made up of a cross section of users, specifically including younger users and
Mendota Heights residents. Two Parks and Recreation Commissioners have been
appointed to help facilitate the subcommittee, and four additional members are needed to
serve. If you are interested in being on the subcommittee contact Meredith Lawrence,
Recreation Program Coordinator, meredithl@mendota-heights.com by 8 a.m. on Monday,
September 14. Please note that members of the community who are not chosen to be on
the subcommittee will still be welcomed and encouraged to be a part of the process.
Your response to the 2020 Census impacts our
community for 10 YEARS
Let's keep up that great response rate for Mendota Heights! Door-to-door visits by census
takers are underway. If a census taker visits you, please respond. You only need to answer
a few basic questions. If you haven't responded yet there is still time to respond on your
own. Visit 2020Census.gov.

NATURAL RESOURCES
Update on the Pollinator Corridor Project at Valley
Park
Great River Greening, along with approximately 30 Xcel Energy employees, will be at Valley
Park on September 12 planting several native shrub and flower species that benefit
pollinators. Some of these include Wild Indigo, Bush Honeysuckle, Culver’s Root, Red Osier
Dogwood, and High Bush Cranberry. The effort is part of the larger Valley Park Pollinator
Corridor project, which will restore nine acres of pollinator habitat in Valley Park. The project
is a joint partnership between the City, Great River Greening, Xcel Energy, and the State of
Minnesota. Funding is provided through the Clean Water Land and Legacy Amendment.
Help remove invasive brush at Copperfield Ponds
Great River Greening is seeking volunteers to help remove invasives, including Amur Maple
and buckthorn, at Copperfield Ponds on Saturday, October 10. Volunteers will be able to
see their progress in real time as they open up trail views by clearing the dense understory
of invasive species and creating space for native plant restoration. Amur Maple is a species
native to China and Japan, which is widely planted as an ornamental shrub. Like buckthorn,
it has escaped its landscape setting to invade our natural areas.
The event will take place over three shifts: 7:30-9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and 1:30-
3:30 p.m. Face coverings and distancing will be required. Preregistration is required at
givepulse.com/event/195464.
