FRIDAY NEWS | May 15, 2020
THE LATEST
Stay Safe Minnesota to begin May 18
Minnesota’s stay-at-home order expires at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 17. Governor Walz
has signed Emergency Executive Order 20-56 so that beginning May 18, non-critical
businesses, like retail stores and main street businesses, can reopen if they have a social
distancing plan and operate at 50 percent capacity. Additionally, the Walz-Flanagan
Administration is assembling guidance on how to safely reopen bars, restaurants,
barbershops, and salons beginning June 1. Watch for more updates from the Minnesota
Department of Employment & Economic Development about what this means for business.
Also, starting May 18, Minnesotans are welcome to gather with friends and family in groups
of 10 or less with safe social distancing practices in place.
It is important to note that protections for those in our communities that are most vulnerable
to the virus are still in place and are those at greatest risk of serious illness are encouraged
to continue staying home.
All Minnesotans are still urged to:
Wash hands often
Get tested when sick
Maintain social distance
Wear a mask
Stay home when able
For more information visit mn.gov/covid19.
Residents encouraged to
preregister to vote
The Minnesota State Primary will take place
August 11. If you are not already registered to
vote, you may preregister up until 5:00 pm on
July 21. After that date, you must register at the
polls or when you cast your absentee ballot.
Voter registration can be completed online at
MNVotes.org, or print out a paper form and mail it in. If you are unsure if you are registered
to vote, you can also check your registration status at this website.
You will need to register if you have never voted before, if you have changed your name or
address since you last voted (including moving to another apartment in the same building),
or if you have not voted in four years.
Minnesota does allow voters to register on Election Day at the polls with the required
identification, however voters are encouraged to pre-register as much as possible.

NATURAL RESOURCES
Raingarden project to begin at Henry Sibley Senior
High School
Dakota County, in partnership with Henry Sibley Senior High School, will be constructing a
raingarden on school grounds along the Marie Avenue pedestrian trail this spring. The
raingarden has been designed to capture and treat stormwater runoff from the school's ball
fields before it enters the City's stormwater conveyance system, helping to filter out
pollutants that would otherwise end up in our surface waters. The project is also designed to
help alleviate drainage that had been flowing over the pedestrian trail causing unsafe
conditions for users. At this time there are no trail closures planned, but users are to use
caution during construction. The project is to begin in late May and be completed by July of
2020. For additional questions and information contact:
