FRIDAY NEWS | March 13, 2020 THE LATEST Protective measures the public can take to prevent the spread of COVID-19 The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is recommending that the public practice the following measures for avoiding respiratory infections, including COVID-19 caused by the coronavirus: Stay home when sick with cold/flu-like symptoms Cover your cough Wash your hands well Avoid touching your face – especially eyes, nose and mouth Additionally the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that persons remain at home for at least 24 hours after they are free of fever and fever symptoms without the use of fever-reducing medications. While the MDH indicates the pandemic is currently still in the containment stage in Minnesota, City departments are operating as business-as-usual, but with increased cleaning protocols to protect visiting public and staff. As a proactive measure, the City encourages residents and businesses to conduct City business via phone and email as much as possible instead of visiting City Hall. City Hall contact information can be found on the city website. The City also encourages, when possible, that groups typically using City Hall meeting spaces which are not legally-mandated to meet consider alternate (and distanced) ways to meet. The current ability to use City meeting spaces may change as the situation warrants. The City will continue to regularly correspond with and monitor updates from the MDH and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Will City public meetings and other events be postponed or cancelled? At this time, the MDH is not recommending that public events be cancelled, and there are no changes to the City’s public meeting schedule. It is important to note that City Council meetings are broadcast live on Mendota Heights’ Cable Channel 18. Live and on-demand webstreaming is also available via Town Square TV at https://www.townsquare.tv/webstreaming. Any future changes to the City’s meetings or events schedule will be posted on the City’s website, social media, and other news sources. How can I stay informed on this topic? The MDH recommends the following resources: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (cdc.gov) Minnesota Department of Health (health.state.mn.us) What if I have additional questions? Call the MDH COVID-19 Hotline at 651-201-3920, Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Everyone counts in the 2020 Census Snowbirds, take note: Census Bureau rules say you should be counted where you live and sleep most of the time. That means snowbirds who are away now, but live in Minnesota for most of the year, should be counted in Minnesota. Ensure you are counted by visiting mn.gov/2020census to learn how to respond online, by phone, or in writing.
