2019-05-24 Friday NewsPublic Meeting Announcements There will be a Planning Commission Workshop to discuss variance procedures on Tuesday, May 28 at 6:15pm at City Hall. 28 MAY Discover What the Community is Saying on Polco The City’s new civic engagement tool through Polco is gaining participation. This free online program enables residents to provide feedback to posted questions via their preferred digital device, at a time and place convenient for them. Polco questions are posted by City officials every few weeks, and may include yes/no, multiple choice, and optional open comment answers. Some questions will be broad-based in nature, and others may be specific to a particular topic or issue. This is a ongoing participation platform, so users can anticipate receiving questions on a regular basis. Total responses are used to improve City services and programs, gain insights into public attitudes and opinions, and seek community input to uncover new ideas and solutions. User identities and responses are anonymous to the public and the city, unless a user chooses to be identified through optional open commenting. Participate in Polco by visiting https://polco.us/mendotaheights or by downloading the app for iOS or Android. Users will be required to create an account to confirm that they live in the Mendota Heights community. The first batch of questions have been posted and are ready for resident feedback! Start by thinking of which nights you’ll be home to cook dinner. Once you have those nights, you can make a rough meal plan. 2. Incorporate ingredients into multiple days’ worth of meals.  Tacos on Monday—use the leftover ingredients to make chili the next night  Roasted chicken on Wednesday—make chicken quesadillas or chicken soup the next night  Spaghetti and meatballs on Friday—make a frittata or pasta bake the next night (or breakfast!)  Use your leftover ingredients from the week to make a soup or hot dish for a “clear the fridge” meal on the weekends 3. Store produce properly. Salad greens: Store with a damp cloth in an airtight container in the high-humidity drawer of the refrigerator. Alternatively, place in a cup with water on the counter, as you would cut flowers. Mushrooms: Mushrooms should be used as quickly as possible after purchase. Do not wash until ready to use. Store in original packaging or in a paper bag on the lower shelf in the refrigerator. Berries: Do not wash until ready to use. Blueberries—Store either in their original container or in a covered bowl or container. Raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries— Store on a shelf in the refrigerator in a single layer in an aerated container on a tray lined with cloth, and then cover loosely with another cloth. For strawberries, leave the green caps on until ready to eat.
