Driving and using a cell phone or hand held device has the same effect as the blood alcohol limit of .08 percent? 6 TEENS ARE KILLED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH IN THE U.S. EVERY DAY 2 WARRANT SERVICE — 13XX Northland Drive 04/12/19, 1105 HOURS While arresting a male party for an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant near the 1300 block of Northland drive, drug paraphernalia was located in the room he was in. The Dakota County Drug Task Force walked past the room with a K9 who indicated the presence of narcotics inside. A search warrant was conducted. Paraphernalia was seized by the Drug Task Force, but no narcotics were recovered. ASSAULT — 5XX Miriam Street 04/12/19, 2324 HOURS Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Miriam Street from a taxi driver who called 911 for a passenger passed out in the back seat. officers arrived and were able to wake the passenger up who immediately became belligerent and screamed at officers. The passenger resisted officer’s verbal commands and physically assaulted two officers while being taken into custody. The suspect was booked into the Dakota County Jail for Disorderly Conduct, Obstructing the Legal Process and Assault in the 4th Degree. DOMESTIC ASSAULT — 13XX Northland Drive 04/13/19, 0118 HOURS Officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance between a male and a female on the 1300 block of Northland Drive. After speaking with both parties, it was determined that a domestic assault took place. The male party was arrested for domestic strangulation and domestic assault. Forwarded to the County Attorney for formal charging. 4th DEG DWI — 494 Eastbound 04/13/19, 0219 HOURS Officer observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and driving on the shoulder of Interstate 494 and near Dodd Road. Officer initiated a traffic stop and conducted a field sobriety test on the driver. Driver blew over the legal limit and was arrested. Driver was booked and released for Misdemeanor Fourth Degree DWI. THEFT — 10XX Sibley Memorial Hwy 04/13/19, 1148 HOURS A parked vehicle was left unlocked and broken into. A garage door opener was stolen. There is no suspect information at this time. The case is inactive. TOBACCO VIOLATION — 9XX Sibley Memorial Hwy 04/13/19, 1600 HOURS Officer conducted educational compliance checks at local tobacco licensed retailers. These compliance checks were educational only. TOBACCO VIOLATION — 9XX Sibley Memorial Hwy 04/13/19, 1615 HOURS Officer conducted educational tobacco compliance checks at tobacco licensed retailers. A business on the 900 block of Sibley Memorial Highway sold tobacco to an underage party. This compliance was educational only and there will be no penalties against the business or the clerk. Report as information only. 3 3rd DEG DWI — 1XXX Dakota Drive 04/14/19, 0305 HOURS Officer stopped out with two vehicles parked in front of a closed business on the 1000 block of Dakota Drive. One driver was cited for driving without a license and the other was arrested for DWI. The driver had one previous DWI and was booked and released for 3rd degree DWI. ROBBERY — 7XX Hwy 62 04/14/19, 1632 HOURS Officers were dispatched to a business on the 700 block of Highway 62 on a report of a robbery that had occurred. Officer spoke with the employee who stated two males stole the money out of the register when it was open and then fled. Officers extensively searched the area and were not able to locate the suspects. Case is pending further investigation. WARRANT ARREST — Sibley Memorial Hwy 04/15/19, 0011 HOURS Officer conducted a traffic stop on the 900 block of Highway 13. After identifying the driver, the officer was alerted the driver had a warrant for their arrest. Officer arrested the driver without incident and transported them to the Dakota County Jail. CHECK WELFARE — 13XX Northland Drive 04/15/19, 1737 HOURS Officers responded to the 1300 block of Northland Drive for a welfare check. Officers located the individual and he requested to be transported to the hospital. Case status cleared report. PD ACCIDENT — 23XX Pilot Knob Road 04/16/19, 0715 HOURS Officers responded to the 2300 block of Pilot Knob Rd on reports of a property damage accident in the parking lot of the business. Officer assisted with the exchange of information and a report was written. DOMESTIC ASSAULT — 13XX Northland Drive 04/16/19, 0715 HOURS Officers responded to the 1300 block of Northland Drive on the report of a Domestic Assault taking place. Officers located the victim and it was determined that an assault had occurred. Officers located and arrested a suspect. Call 911 HANDS-FREE LAW For more information, please visit: Office of Traffic Safety Beginning August 1st, MN has a new hands-free law that bans the use of hand-held cell phones while driving, aiming to prevent distracted driving accidents. The new law allows a driver to use their cell phone to make calls, text, listen to music or podcasts and get directions, but only by voice commands or single touch activation without holding the phone. Remember, hands-free is not necessarily distraction- free. The first ticket is $50 plus court fees and the second and later tickets are $275 plus court fees.
