2018-11-09 Friday NewsPublic Meeting Announcements
The Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 13 at
6:30 pm has been changed to a joint Parks & Recreation Commission/City Council
Meeting. This joint meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 13 at 6:00 pm.
There will be a Planning Commission Workshop regarding the 2040 Comprehensive Plan
Update at 4:00 pm on Monday, November 19.
2018 General Election—Unofficial Results
Once again the City of Mendota Heights had an excellent voter turnout for the General
Election held on November 6. There were a total of 7,435 voters who cast their ballots – a
significant increase from the last midterm election in 2014.
The unofficial results indicate Mayor Neil Garlock will be elected to his second term as
Mayor. Councilors Elizabeth Petschel (third term) and Ultan Duggan (fifth term) will also be
reelected to serve. The elected Mayor and Council members will be sworn in at the first
Council meeting of 2019. Results are unofficial until the City canvasses and approves them on
November 13.
A big thank you to the 50 election judges and 11 precinct captains who facilitated at the polls,
and also many City staff members who put in long hours to help the voting process run
smoothly. For election details, visit https://services.co.dakota.mn.us/electionresults/

Street Sweeping to Begin
Weather permitting, street sweeping is anticipated to begin Tuesday, November 13, and be
completed in approximately three to four days. This helps to keep storm drains in proper
working order, and the system clear of sediment, leaves, and decomposing plant material that
would be damaging to local lakes and rivers. Debris collected by street sweeping is hauled to
an approved landfill.
How you can help:
Keep vehicles off of the street until sweepers have cleaned both sides of the street
Remind neighbors to keep vehicles off of the street until sweepers are finished
Keep trash cans behind the curb on collection day
DO NOT push/rake leaves, grass, or other debris into the street, from your yard or from
adjacent yards (it is illegal and prohibited by City Code)

Own a Piece of History...Highway 110 Signs
Sign-up to request purchase of a Hwy 110 Sign
In August, MnDOT changed the names of Highway 110 to Highway 62. The reason
for this change was to minimize diver confusion to, and from, the MSP airport. The
Highway will be dual named as Highway 110/62 for one year. As the Old Highway
110 signs are removed next summer, residents may purchase one of the
approximately 20 signs that will be available. If more than 20 people are interested
in the signs, names will be drawn randomly.
To request a sign: Contact the Oakdale Sign Shop via email: metsignshop.dot@state.mn.us. Signs are
approximately 24”x30” in size and will cost $1.50/SF. The sign will need to be
picked up in Oakdale.

Fall is a Great Time for Buckthorn Removal
Buckthorn is an invasive,
non-native understory
tree that is often pruned
as a shrub. Fall is a great
time for removal, as
buckthorn is easily
identified by its green
leaves well into late fall,
when other native
deciduous trees and
plants have gone dormant. Please visit the city website at: https://www.mendota-
heights.com/index.asp?SEC=987B4837-0CC1-4603-B5EE-6F0823ED35AC for more
information on buckthorn identification and control methods. If you are unsure if
you have buckthorn on your property, please contact City Staff for a site visit and
proper identification. For more information: MN Department of Natural
Resources or contact: Krista Spreiter, Natural Resources Technician at:
