Green your Trip to the State Fair
Carpool or take Metro Transit to the Fair:
Most stops are serviced every 15 minutes and are
super affordable—about $5 cash for roundtrip! To
find a bus stop, visit MetroTransit or call
612-373-3333.
Bring your own bottle:
Bring a few reusable water bottles filled with ice
that will melt as the day goes on. Refill those
bottles at restrooms or fill stations at the Fair.
There is a water refill station at the Eco
Experience Building, and Culligan always has their
water jugs out front. Bring your own bottle to cut down on plastic and save you money to put toward the
good stuff—fried food!
Compost your cob.
Make sure to drop your eaten cob into a cob composting box located next to the vendor.
Food on a stick:
Buy foods with less packaging so you have less to throw away.
Bring a bandana:
Use the bandana as a napkin, and you can tie it to your shorts or throw it in your bag when not needed, or
mop a sweaty brow. This will help cut down on napkin waste.
Souvenir cup:
Purchase the souvenir pop cup to refill throughout the day. Most beverage stands give a slight discount to
refill your souvenir cup.
Say no to plastic junk:
Who needs 10 compass keychains anyway? Don’t take the plastic freebies that booths give out. Refrain from
bringing wasteful trinkets into your home that you now need to store and take care of. Just say no!

LAST CHANCE FOR SUMMER FUN! Time to pack in those last minute summer plans
before kids are all back in school mode. As you head out or have friends over and gear
up for some fun, be safe and be smart! We want everyone to get back home alive and
well. Keep the following in mind:
Don’t drink and drive. DWIs can have tragic results and cost a lot of money for
drunk drivers. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety estimates that the total
cost for a DWI can be as high as $20,000 when factoring in court costs, legal fees
and increased insurance premiums.
Move over. The Ted Foss Move Over Law was named in memory of State Trooper
Ted Foss who was killed while on the shoulder of I-90 in Winona in 2000. The law
simply states that when traveling on a road with two or more lanes, drivers must
keep more than one full lane away from stopped emergency vehicles when their
flashing lights are activated.
Secure your load. MN state law requires that no part of a load become loose or fall
into a lane of traffic. An object weighing just 20 pounds that falls from a vehicle at
55 mph strikes with an impact of half a ton.
Drive distraction-free. As a driver, your job is to drive. Anything you do that
takes you away from that job is a distraction and increases your chances of crash-
ing. Each year in Minnesota distracted driving is a factor in one of four crashes re-
sulting in at least 70 deaths and 350 serious injuries.
Be patient. Don’t let traffic stress you out! Plan for extra travel time, listen to
some great tunes, podcasts or audio books to keep you calm!
