Emerald Ash Borer has been found in Mendota Heights
Mendota Heights has an abundance of ash trees growing on public
and private property. If you have an ash tree, now is the time to
decide what to do. Ash trees can either be protected or removed.
Mendota Heights is encouraging residents to treat large, well-placed,
healthy, private ash trees.
As a result, the city has partnered with Rainbow Treecare to treat privately owned
ash trees. This partnership offers a citywide discount through 2018 for any privately
owned ash trees in Mendota Heights. Look for a mailing with more information
coming soon to your mailbox. You can also find additional information on our web-
site– mendota-heights.com.

July 4th Fireworks
The July 4th fireworks are being held—but Mendota Heights needs your help! The
City Council has agreed to partially fund the 2018 fireworks out of tax-
dollars. Mendota Heights residents and businesses are being asked to also contrib-
ute. A goal of $14,000 has been set. Mendota Heights resident Jay Taylor and the
Northern Lighters have volunteered to take on the fundraising efforts.
A Go Fund Me page has been established which makes it easy to contribute.
To pledge on-line, go to www.gofundme.com/mendota-heights-fireworks. Checks are also being accepted. They should be made payable to “Northern Light-
ers”, and may be sent to or dropped off at Mendota Heights City Hall, 1101 Victoria
Curve, Mendota Heights, MN 55118. Mendakota Country Club has agreed to be the launching site for the display and will
provide cleanup and other support services for the event.

MAIL THEFT
Never put outgoing mail in your mailbox. It
is a red flag for thieves to steal what's inside.
2
Now that summer has arrived and the warmer weather is here,
the ability and willingness for criminals to partake in crimes of
opportunity have increased. This means we need to make
certain we are doing everything we can to protect ourselves
and our families from being victims of these crimes.
And always remember, if you see something suspicious,
SAY SOMETHING!

HAVE A SAFE WEEK!
We’ve had some questions at
MHPD around the use of
Motorized Foot Scooters.
Here’s what DMV.ORG provides
for regulations on motorized foot
scooters:
Motorized Foot Scooters
These are vehicles that are stood
or sat upon, and have all of the
following:
Handlebars.
A motor or engine that moves
the vehicle, without additional
effort from the rider.
Wheels that have a maximum
diameter of 10 inches OR a
maximum speed of 15 MPH
on flat surfaces.
You do not need a license,
registration or insurance to
operate a motorized foot scooter
in Minnesota. You must be at
least 12 years old to ride, and
your scooter must have a head-
light and taillight in order to be
operated at night.
