Background Denise Urmann has resigned her position as Police Officer effective May 18, 2018. The City Council should take action to accept that action. To fill the resulting vacant position, staff requests authorization to begin the recruitment process. The recruitment process will start with a position posting/advertisement. It is anticipated that the application period will run from June 1 to June 29. Interested applicants must submit a cover letter, resume, city application and application supplement. Applications will be evaluated and ranked, and interviews and testing conducted. After the initial posting period, the hiring process is anticipated to take four to six weeks. Budget Impact Funding for the position is provided for in the 2018 budget. Recommendation Staff recommends that the City Council accept Officer Urmann's resignation, and authorize staff to begin the recruitment process to fill a Police Officer vacancy within the department. Action Requested If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, accept the resignation of Police Officer Denise Urmann effective May 18, 2018, and authorize staff to begin the Police Officer recruitment process. Background Since November, 2016 Eric Hagelee has served as the Police Department's Community Service Officer (CSO). CSO Hagelee has completed his college degree, and is now attending Alexandria Tech to complete his law enforcement training. In anticipation of Eric becoming a licensed police officer, staff is seeking authorization to begin the recruitment process to fill the anticipated CSO vacancy. The CSO position was added to the Police Department in 2016. The position is a part-time (.5 FTE) pro -rated, benefit eligible position. The CSO is a non -sworn position, and eligible applicants must be enrolled in an approved degree program and working towards certification by the Minnesota Police Officer and Standards Training Board. The maximum length of time an employee can serve in the CSO position is 36 months. If approved, the recruitment process will start with a position posting/advertisement. It is anticipated that the application period will run from June 1 to June 29. Interested applicants must submit a cover letter, resume, city application and application supplement. Applications will be evaluated and ranked, and interviews and testing conducted. After the initial posting period, the hiring process is anticipated to take four to six weeks. Page 4 Budget Impact Funding for the position is provided for in the 2018 budget. The starting rate is $18.89 per hour, which is step 1 of pay grade 2 under the City's pay plan. Recommendation Staff recommends that the City Council authorize staff to begin the recruitment process to fill the Community Service Officer position within the Police Department. Action Required If the Council concurs, it should, by motion authorize staff to begin the Community Service Officer recruitment process. Page 5 1101 Victoria Curve I Mendota Heights, MN 55118 651.452.1850 phone I 651.452.8440 fax www.rrendota•heights.com T of Mi CITY OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS To: Mayor and City Council From: Mark McNeill, City Administrator Subject: City Hall Remodeling Project Payment Date: May 30, 2018 COMMENT: INTRODUCTION: El The Council is asked to approve payment in the amount of $45,000.15 to Dering Pierson for work on the City Hall remodeling project. BACKGROUND: Dering Pierson is the general contractor for the City Hall project. It has submitted a payment request in the amount of $45,000.15 as partial payment for the exterior masonry work on the building. The contractor, subcontract, project architect, and the City have agreed that some portion of the work will need to redone; the exact amount of that will be determined after a review by a third party who is knowledgeable about restoration masonry. Any re -do of the work will be done this fall. In the meantime, the contractor has requested payment for work that has been satisfactorily completed to date. That should be approved at this time. BUDGET IMPACT: The $45,000.15 is a portion of the approximately $110,000 which is allocated to the exterior masonry portion of the project. The money is available in the City hall remodeling project budget. RECOMMENDTION: I recommend that the Council authorize payment to Dering Pierson in the amount of $45,000.15. ACTION REQUIRED: If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, authorize payment for work done on the City Hall remodeling project, in the amount of $45,000.15. Mark McNeill City Administrator
