LEMA board members are police officers, survivors and friends of fallen officers who volunteer their time. All contributions go to supporting the activities of the association. LEMA is able to provide assistance both at the time of death, as well as into the future. LEMA honors the families and fallen officers during National Law Enforcement Memorial Week. LEMA is there . . . when the need arises. The Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association was formed in 1974 by Jim Crawford, then Chief of Police in Golden Valley, MN. LEMA was founded with the sole purpose of building a memorial to Minnesota peace officers who had died in the line of duty. This memorial was designed and the fundraising began. In 1977, the beautiful granite memorial was erected in the main concourse of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The memorial remained on display there until it was moved to its new home in the centerpiece of the Peace Officer's Memorial on the capitol grounds in St. Paul. Once the memorial was built, LEMA expanded its service to include granting college scholarships to the immediate family members of fallen officers. Nearly $100,000 in scholarships have been awarded. LEMA also sponsors an annual memorial service hosted by departments around the state. This service is held the first Sunday in May of each year. It is at this service that a ribbon bearing the name of each officer lost in the line of duty during the year is installed permanently on the LEMA flag. This service also includes the reading of the Honor Roll, the list of names of fallen Minnesota officers. As of January 1, 2018, this list includes the names of 280 officers dating back to 1881. The woman was upset she was being evicted and made threats to harm herself. She was transported to the hospital on a health and welfare hold. DOMESTIC — 5XX Maple Park Dr 05/05/18, 1037 HOURS Officers were dispatched on a domestic assault. Suspect was gone on arrival. After further investigation, it was determined that a crime did in fact occur and a warrant was issued for the suspect. MINOR CONSUMPTION — Concord Way/Heritage Dr 05/06/18, 0023 HOURS Officer observed an individual walking near the intersection carrying a 24 pack of beer. The individual was identified as a juvenile. The juvenile was transferred to the care of his guardian and was issued a citation for minor consumption, minor possession of alcohol and curfew violation. WARRANT ARREST — I-35E/Hwy 13 05/06/18, 0027 HOURS Officer observed a vehicle with a burnt out headlight pass by. He conducted a traffic stop and the driver was found to have a misdemeanor warrant and was placed under arrest. PI ACCIDENT — Hwy 110/Lexington Ave 05/06/18, 1203 HOURS Officers responded to a vehicle vs. bicyclist personal injury crash. Bicyclists received minor injuries and was released. It could not be determined who was at fault. BURGLARY — 7XX Main St 05/08/18, 0342 HOURS Officers were dispatched to an alarm at a local business. The business had been burglarized and items were taken. Case pending further investigation. CHILD PROTECTION — 1XXX Delaware Ave 05/08/18, 0830 HOURS SRO spoke with a juvenile who wanted to report that they were in fear of harm for themselves and a parent at home. The case was referred to Dakota County Child Protection. THEFT — 2XXX Lexington Ave 05/08/18, 1142 HOURS Officer spoke with reporting party who wanted to report a bronze vase stolen from a grave marker. The theft occurred sometime within the past two years. No suspects. DISORDERLY CONDUCT — 1XXX 2nd St 05/08/18, 1751 HOURS Officers were called to location on a male party yelling and disturbing the peace. On scene, a male was found along with two other females. A knife was recovered along with narcotics. The vehicle was towed and the suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct. One of the females was charged with fifth degree possession and released. BURGLARY — 1XXX Dodd Rd 05/09/18, 0833 HOURS Officer responded to location on an attempted burglary report. The front and back doors were damaged but no entry was made. No suspects. 3 FRAUD — 1XXX Knollwood Ln 05/09/18, 1323 HOURS Officer took a fraud report involving a stolen identity. Reporting party had a credit card opened in their name. Party is working with credit card company to restore credit score. Fraud victim information was given to victim. THEFT — 1XXX Hwy 110 05/09/18, 1921 HOURS Officer was dispatched to a local business on a theft report. Officer was told by staff that a male had stolen the charity donation jar that sits on the counter and then fled in an unknown direction. Cameras were unable to get the license plates of the suspect vehicle. Inactive. THEFT — 1XXX Delaware Ave 05/09/18, 1934 HOURS Officer was dispatched to contact a woman about a theft that occurred earlier in the day. The woman stated that her sons bat was stolen. The boy left his bag unattended for a brief moment in the locker room and when he returned, his bat was missing. No suspects at this time. IDENTITY THEFT — 1XXX Knollwood Ln 05/09/18, 2047 HOURS Officer took a report of a theft of mail that occurred. A neighbor witnessed the theft and was able to provide officers with the license plate of the suspect vehicle. A KOPS alert was sent out for the suspect. Case pending. THEFT FROM MV — X Dorset Rd 05/10/18, 1200 HOURS Officer responded to a theft from vehicle report. The homeowner mentioned he thought the vehicle was locked but suspect(s) entered the vehicle and took some loose change.
