Their amazing resources are designed to help you work with your family to build the bridge to safety with the right tools and reinforcements. Below are some of their recommendations. 911 FOR SAFETY Anytime someone feels scared or threatened by suspicious persons or situations, 911 for Safety should be the first call made. Get help on the way for the quickest action and investigation. VIGILANCE VS STRANGER DANGER Teach kids about identifying trusted persons. If there’s a problem, who can and should they turn to? Help them know that while there are some bad people in the world, most people in this world are kind and want them to be safe and strong. TRUST THE “UH-OH” FEELING: We could all remember this trick! When you get that icky gut feeling, remove yourself from the situation, seek help and tell someone. SECRETS VS SURPRISES: Surprises are fun, withheld for fun purposes; secrets should not be kept from parents. Teach them the difference so they know how and when information should be shared. If the info feels wrong or bad, share it. USE “WHAT IF” SCENARIOS: Talk about scenarios that might seem safe but are probably not. Remember that Adults don’t ask kids for help with Adult Problems. Teach them to when to run, hide or fight. Try using code words to small children safely identify their trusted person in a real emergency.
