Winter Reminders
Winter weather is upon us. Did you know the first 12-13 feet of your yard behind your
curb line is City owned right-of-way? This right-of-way exists to house underground utili-
ties as well as for winter snow storage. After a big snowfall, the City pushes the snow
berm back from the curb to make storage room for the next big snowfall. If there are ob-
jects or landscaping (other than grass) in this right-of-way area, it could be damaged, or do
damage to the snow plows.
The City does repair damage to the grass in the right-of-way, but is not obligated to repair
anything damaged beyond the grass, such as ornaments or landscaping. If a homeowner
chooses to leave a lawn ornament in place within the right-of-way, please place a 4-foot
high reflective flag at the object so our plow drivers know the object is there.
If you have questions regarding snow removal, please contact City Hall at 651.452.1850.
Fire Hydrants
In the event of a fire emergency, could the firefighters
find the hydrant near your home? If not, do a good deed
and clear snow from around the hydrant throughout the
winter season. This will ensure the firefighters can find
the hydrant quickly. The time saved could save a home
or a life.
Winter Parking Reminder
Parking is prohibited on any public street between the hours of 2:00 am and 6:00 am be-
tween November 1st and March 31st. Also, parking is prohibited during any snowfall of 2
inches or more, until the street is plowed curb to curb. Remind your young drivers and
overnight guests and avoid a citation.
Trash and Recycling Containers
On trash collection day, place your containers on the driveway apron, behind the curb, out
of the path of traffic and snow plows.

2nd Annual Garold ‘Jerry’ Murphy Community Service Award
The City is accepting nominations for the 2nd Annual Garold M.
“Jerry” Murphy Community Service Award. Please take the time to

to make our community a better place.

Most people don’t realize it, but heavy snowfall like we had this past
week pose an increased risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It is a
good idea to make sure carbon monoxide testers are in good working
order with fresh batteries, especially during the winter months.
High efficiency gas furnaces vent carbon monoxide gas outside the
home through vents, as do gas dryers and water heaters. The furnace
systems typically vent through the sill plate of the home, close to
ground level through a white PVC piping. These vents can be blocked
by heavy snowfall or drifts from snow shoveling. Family homes are
especially vulnerable to carbon monoxide poisoning during snowstorm
season.
It is recommended to :
Clear a 3-foot area around vents. Check the area regularly to make
sure that strong winds haven't caused snow to drift and cover the
vents.
Make sure that your carbon monoxide detectors are working.
If you incur problems, call your heating contractor to help resolve
the issue.
Keep alert for symptoms of Carbon Monoxide exposure. Symptoms
and effects vary between individuals, even at the same level of CO
exposure, but people typically experience flu-like symptoms,
including: dizziness, fatigue, weakness, headache or vomiting, trouble
breathing, or confusion. If anyone suspects symptoms from Carbon
Monoxide exposure they should evacuate the home and call 911.
