SUBJECT: Natural Resources Plan
Background
Mendota Heights, with a grant from the DNR, commissioned a Natural Resource Plan in 2002.
Requested Action
This plan should be reviewed to determine if an update is necessary or to continue working on
existing Management Recommendations.

SUBJECT: GreenCorps Program
Background
The Parks and Recreation Commission requested a discussion of applying to host a GreenCorps
member.
A flyer for the program is attached. Also included is a list of the 2017-2018 projects done by the
GreenCorps.
Requested Action
If the Commission has an eligible project in mind they should make a request to submit an
application to staff.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is now accepting applications
from organizations interested in participating as a host site for the
2018 ‐ 2019 Minnesota GreenCorps program year.
Minnesota GreenCorps is an environmentally focused AmeriCorps program coordinated by the MPCA,
which places AmeriCorps members with organizations around the state to spend a year of service
addressing critical environmental issues, while gaining experience and learning valuable job skills.
Eligible organizations include public entities (local, regional, state, tribal), school districts, not for profit
institutions of higher education, and 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Organizations may apply for
Minnesota GreenCorps members who will serve on projects in the areas of:
Air pollutant reduction
Waste reduction, recycling, and organics management
Green infrastructure improvements
Community readiness and outreach
The MPCA plans to place up to 42 full‐time members with host sites throughout Minnesota for the
2018‐2019 program year. Members serve approximately 40 hours a week for 11 months from
September 2018 through August 2019.

Applications from eligible organizations interested in hosting MN GreenCorps members are
due by 5:00 pm CDT on Friday, March 23, 2018.
