CITY OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA AIRPORT RELATIONS COMMISSION MINUTES October 13, 2010
The regular meeting of the Mendota Heights Airport Relations Commission was held on
Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., at City Hall, 1101 Victoria Curve, Mendota
Heights, Minnesota.
The following Commissioners were present: Liz Petschel (Chair), Robin Ehrlich (Vice Chair), Sally Lorberbaum, Lyle Odland, Bill Dunn and David Sloan. Also present were: David McKnight, Sunfish Lake Representative Gretchen Keenan, Chad Leqve (MAC) and Shane Vanderherd (MAC).
Approval of Minutes
A motion was made by Commissioner Ehrlich, seconded by Commissioner Lorberbaum
to approve the minutes of the August 11, 2010 and September 15, 2010 ARC meeting. Motion passed unanimously. MAC Commissioner Commissioner Petschel introduced our Metropolitan Airports Commissioner John
McClung. Mr. McClung thanked the commission for the opportunity to attend the
meeting. Mr. McClung shared his background information with the members and
welcomed them to ask any questions they have. Chair Petschel stated the ARC
understands the fiscal impact of the airport on Mendota Heights. Chair Petschel also shared some of the concerns about the airport long term comprehensive plan. The concerns include long term planning, capacity and the impact between 65 dnl and 60 dnl. Chair Petschel talked about the MD80’s and the DC-9’s and the loud noise they both make.
Commissioner Lorberbaum asked the best way to get in touch with him? Mr. McClung
asked that the ARC work through the city administrator.
Commissioner Ehrlich mentioned that in the past cities have worked against each other when it comes to the impact of noise. The cities now have had success working together on this issue through the NOC. The commission thanked Mr. McClung for attending.

2MAC Real Time Flight Tracker Chad Leqve summarized the history of sharing flight track data with the public. Previously this information was not shared with the public for approximately ten days. The MAC has now developed a new system that makes this information available to the

public in as little as ten minutes online. Shane Vanderherd demonstrated the new online flight tracker system for the commission. The site is best viewed using Firefox as the web browser.
Commissioners asked a number of questions related to the new website. Commissioners
discussed the relationship with MAC staff and how resident’s complaints are dealt with.
Commissioners were very happy with the new program and thanked Chad and Shane for coming to the meeting tonight. Chair Petschel asked about area navigation and the impact on MSP. Mr. Leqve shared his thoughts on the issue and how this issue will be studied. Concerns were shared about the potential impact some areas around the airport could see from this program.
Airport Noise Report
City Administrator David McKnight asked the commissioners how much they use the
Airport Noise Report as a resource. The commission members asked for more information on how this report is related to our membership in NOISE. This issue will be brought back in November. Jack Lambert, 2237 Rogers Court, asked if the departure cone was developed to address flight safety concerns? Chair Petschel stated safety is actually increased.

Adjourn Motion by Commission Lorberbaum and seconded by Commissioner Odland to adjourn the meeting at 8:29 p.m. Motion passed unanimously.
