June 23, 2017 Highway 110 Eastbound Closure Motorists traveling eastbound on Highway 110 in Mendota Heights, Sunfish Lake, West St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights will encounter a closure and a detour. The north and south movements will remain open at the intersections of Dodd Road, Delaware Avenue and High- way 110. Motorists traveling westbound on Highway 110 will use their usual lanes. Note: Nearby residences may experience some noise during construction work. The contractor will be working 24 hours per day at least 6 days a week. This work includes removals, excavation/grading, installation/removal of shoring, and installation of a box culvert under Highway 110. Work is expected to run though fall 2017. In the past five years, there has been a 50% increase. 2016 2015 2014 2013 2012  60 41 17 35 40  PEDESTRIANS: Sidewalks and paths, when available, are the safest place to walk. If no sidewalk is provided, walk facing road traffic and remain vigilant. Be visible by wearing light/bright/reflecƟve colors or carry a small flashlight to signal your presence. Stay alert and aware, with head up, eyes on road way, and ears tuned in to your environ- ment. Distracted Drivers and Distracted pedestrians may be a bad combo. Make eye con- tact with drivers at intersecƟons to ensure they see you. Avoid alcohol and drugs/medicaƟons that impair your ability to walk safely and make safe decisions. Cross streets at the corner. While it may be tempƟng to cross mid-block, this is where most injuries occur. Using traffic signals and crosswalks is much safer. Look both ways, repeatedly, including from the corners behind and in front of you and remain aware. Be especially careful at intersecƟons., as many drivers may fail to yield the right-of-way while turning onto another street. Watch and follow the pedestrian signal, not the traffic signal. Watch out for parked vehicles. Parking lots can be especially dangerous as most drivers have a limited view when backing out. Use cauƟon around driveways and alley entrances. Drivers are oŌen not expecƟng anyone to be walking there and extra aƩenƟon is required. DRIVERS: Be aware of children that may dart out in the street at any Ɵme. Follow the speed limit and be especially cauƟous around residenƟal neighborhoods and school zones. Yield to pedestrians. When making a turn and waiƟng for an opening in traffic, be aware that pedestrians may have moved into your path. They always have the right-of-way. Be cauƟous around driveways and alleys. When entering and exiƟng, these can be very difficult places to spot pedestrians. Eliminate distracƟons and give the roads and pedestrians your full aƩenƟon. Approach crosswalks carefully. If a pedestrian is crossing or about to cross, stop well back so drivers in other lanes also have Ɵme to yield. Do not pass another vehicle that has stopped for pedestrians.   2           ARSON — 1XXX Wagon Wheel Tr        06/16/2017, 2230 HOURS  Officer was dispatched to a report of a trash can on fire.  A large recycling container appeared to have been  intenƟonally set on fire using an unknown accelerant.  MHFD responded and exƟnguished the fire.  Nothing  was able to be obtained for evidenƟary value.     FRAUD — 5XX Fremont St         06/17/2017, 1422 HOURS  VicƟm reports credit fraud at a Best Buy store.  Earlier in the day, vicƟms wallet was stolen out of a locked  gym locker at a workout facility.  Best Buy video surveillance was able to capture the suspect images but  the footage was not clear enough to make out faces.  Case inacƟve.     DWI/PD ACCIDENT — Dodd Rd/Mendakota Dr      06/17/2017, 2113 HOURS  Officer responded to a report of a property damage accident.  Suspect  rear‐ended another vehicle.         Suspect showed signs of impairments, failed SFT’s.  Party was charged with 3rd Degree DWI and            transported to Dakota County Jail.     CHECK WELFARE — 1XXX Hwy 13        06/17/2017, 2347 HOURS  Officers responded to the Mendota Bridge on a male party who was considering jumping off.  ReporƟng  party stated the male had sent pictures of the bridge and made statements of harming himself.  Male was  located near the bridge and transported to the hospital on a health and welfare hold.     FOUND MAIL            06/17/2017‐06/18/2017  A few different residents found pieces of mail belonging to several different residents in the city.  The mail  was delivered to the righƞul owner.  It is believed the theŌ took place someƟme in the overnight hours of  6/17.  No suspects.     DOMESTIC — 7XX Hwy 110         06/18/2017, 2034 HOURS  Officers responded to locaƟon on a situaƟon involving a female who was possibly hit or hit by a vehicle.   The female was located and no assault had taken place nor had anyone been struck by a vehicle.  The       situaƟon was a husband/wife verbal domesƟc.  Female party was allowed to leave and go home.     DOMESTIC — 2XXX Hwy 13         06/18/2017, 2211 HOURS  Officers responded to locaƟon on a possible assault in progress between boyfriend and girlfriend.  Officers  spoke to both individuals and learned they had both been drinking, doing drugs, and arguing over money.   Neither party was assaulted and they agreed to just eat dinner and go to sleep.    MENTAL HEALTH — 1XXX 2nd St        06/18/2017, 2300 HOURS  Officers responded to locaƟon on a disturbance where a female was out of control and threatening to  strike reporƟng party.  Upon arrival, the female was located in the basement.  It was determined that she  had consumed a large amount of alcohol in a short period of Ɵme and was also seeing and hearing things.   She was transported to the hospital on a health and welfare hold.                  3           DAMAGE TO PROPERTY— 2XXX Concord Way      06/19/2017,  2241 HOURS  Officer responded to the city park on a damage to property report.  The restroom on the west side of the  building had interior damage that appeared to be from a roman candle style firework.  There were burn  marks on the wall, mirror and ceiling as well as soot on the sink and floor.  The toilet appeared to have  been clogged with toilet paper and inappropriate language and “art” were scratched into the door. No     suspects.     THEFT— 1XXX Lilydale Rd         06/20/2017,  1700 HOURS  Officer was dispatched to contact reporƟng party on an aŌer the fact theŌ that took place.  He made      contact with the vicƟm who stated that she had parked her vehicle in the parking lot at locaƟon, returned  to it, and noƟced her passenger side front window was shaƩered.  A few items were taken from the         vehicle.  No suspects.     DAR/NO INS— Victoria Rd/Eagle Ridge Dr      06/21/2017,  0941 HOURS  Officer ran a plate and it came back as a revoked driver status.  A traffic stop was conducted, driver          idenƟfied and was issued a citaƟon for DAR, No Insurance and  Operate MV w/o IgniƟon Interlock.    PI ACCIDENT— 1XXX Vail Dr         06/22/2017,  0914 HOURS  Squads were dispatched to locaƟon concerning a injury accident.  ReporƟng party/driver had accidentally  struck a pedestrian on the roadway.  VicƟm was transported to the hospital.    CRISIS/MENTAL HEALTH— 1XXX Victoria Curve     06/22/2017,  1732 HOURS  ReporƟng party pulled into PD parking lot aŌer driving with her daughter who was having mental health  issues.  The daughter leŌ the area on foot once the mother parked.  The area was searched yet she was not  located.  Pings were aƩempted to locate the daughter but were unsuccessful.  The mother called later to  state she had talked to her daughter a couple of Ɵmes and would likely be going to pick her and would call  police if any problems arise.                                                 4     6/16–
