City Council Seeks to Fill Planning Commission Vacancy The Mendota Heights City Council is seeking applicants to fill one vacancy on the Planning Commission. The term will start in July 2017 and expires January 31, 2020. The Planning Commission holds public hearings and makes recommendations to the city council. The ma- jority of their work relates to conditional use permits, variances, critical area permits and wetlands permits for properties. The meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm. Interested persons should submit a letter of interest and a current resume to City Administrator Mark McNeill no later than June 15, 2017. This includes being stopped in traffic or at a light. The law does not apply to devices that are permanently affixed to the vehicle or global positioning or navigation systems. Texting and web access statute — M.S. 169.475  It is illegal for drivers under age 18 to use a cell phone, whether hand-held or hands-free — except to call 911 in an emergency. Permit and Provisional License statues — MS 171.05 and MS 171.055 Subd. 2(a)  Cell phone use is totally banned for school bus drivers School bus driver statute — MS 169.443 Subd. 9(b)  Distracted drivers can be ticketed for reckless or careless driving when their actions demonstrate a disregard for the safety or rights of others. Reckless and Careless Driving Statute — MS 169.13 2 CHECK WELFARE—2XXX Hwy 13 05/26/17, 1109 HOURS Called to 2XXX Hwy 13 on a check the welfare. Reporting party concerned over the health of his brother. Male party located and cleared by medics. Male was arrested on two Dakota County Warrants and transported to Dakota County Jail without incident ACCIDENT — Mendota Heights Road 05/26/17, 1318 HOURS Responded to single vehicle crash on Mendota Heights Rd near Concord Way. Elderly driver drove off roadway and struck tree. Minor leg injury, transported to area hospital. Vehicle towed. State accident report completed ORDINACE VIOLATION — 18XX Rolling Green Curve 05/27/17 1644 HOURS Dispatched to a solicitor near 1800 block of Rolling Green Curve. Black male/white van selling meat. Located male in the area and cited for ordinance violation. ASSIST OTHER AGENCY— Hwy 110 05/27/17, 1705 HOURS Mendota Heights officers assisted with a perimeter and search for a suspect who fled on foot from a single vehicle accident following a pursuit by a neighboring jurisdiction in the area of Knob Rd and Hwy 110. Assis- tance was provided by several agencies, utilizing K-9 and air support. The suspect was not located. THEFT FROM VEHICLE — 7XX Woodridge Drive 05/27/17, 2200 HOURS Dispatched to 700 block of Woodridge Drive on a theft from motor vehicle. Callers unlocked vehicle was rummaged through sometime overnight. Small amount of change taken. Nothing further THEFT FROM VEHICLE — 6XX Maple Park Drive 05/27/17, 2300 HOURS Dispatched to the 600 block of Maple Park Dr on a theft from two unlocked vehicles in the driveway. Occurred overnight. Cash, computer phone and passport taken. Follow up pending email from reporting party. TRAFFIC STOP — Sibley Memorial Hwy 05/28/17, 1318 HOURS Traffic Stop for registered owner with a warrant near Hwy 13 and 2nd Street. Owner was driver, warrant confirmed and driver arrested. Bail posted, and court date given. Driver released. ATTEMPTED BURGLARY — 2XXX Dodd Road 05/30/17, 0258 HOURS Officers responded to the 2XXX block of Dodd Rd for an attempted burglary. An unknown suspect(s) used a small boulder to shatter the windows to a business. However, the windows did not break and entry was not made. Case inactive pending further suspect information. THEFT FROM VEHICLE — 13XX Hwy 13 05/30/17, 1800 HOURS Responded to the 1300 block of Hwy 13 in Mendota for a theft from auto report. Victim reported the passenger side window of her vehicle broken out and a bag containing children's books and miscellaneous supplies taken. The area was checked for the bag, nothing located. 3 THEFT— 11XX Sibley Memorial Hwy 05/30/17, 2200 HOURS Comp in the 1100 block of Sibley Memorial Highway reported that someone stole a flower pot from in her front door step sometime overnight. There is no suspect information or additional information. No information to follow up. DAMAGE TO PROPERTY — 11XX Dodd Road 5/31/17, 1035 HOURS Comp in the 1100 block of Dodd Road reported that he was working a construction job at the location and at some point, the rear window of his van shattered. It's unknown what caused the window to shatter or if it was a criminal act. There is nothing to follow up on and no additional information. MISC PUBLIC — 11XX Victoria Curve 05/31/17, 1620 HOURS Dakota County courthouse staff called to inform us a male from Mendota Heights was unhappy with court proceedings and stated he was going to go the Mendota Heights Police Department and hit an officer in the head with a hammer. The male arrived with no weapons, only a paper he wished to give. No threats, male stated he had just been venting. FOUND PROPERTY — Hwy 13 N 05/31/17, 1626 HOURS A resident found a drivers license and a credit card in the street and dropped it off at the Police Department. Contact with the owner was unsuccessful. The next day contact with the owner of the proper- ty was made and ultimately reunited! ANIMAL CALL— 6XX Mendota Heights Road 05/31/17, 1909 HOURS Officer responded to the report of a dog bite incident at a park. After investigating the accusations the reporting officer issued the dog owner with a potentially dangerous dog notice. TRAFFIC STOP — Sibley Memorial Hwy 06/01/17, 1447 HOURS Traffic stop at Hwy 13 & Wachtler. Registered owner/driver canceled and had a misdemeanor warrant. Female was cited and transported to Ramsey County Jail on the warrant.
