Res 66 - 14 Adopting & Establishing Holidays, Sick Leave & Vacation Benefits for Permanent EmployeesRESOLUTION NO. /1V VIUAGE OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION ADOPTING AND ESTABLISHING HOLIDAYS, SICK LEAVE AND VACATION BENEFITS FOR PFZ4ANENT FA-iPLOYEES Mendota Heights, Minnesota BE IT RESOLVED by the Village Council of the Village of Mendota Heights as follows: �1HEREAS, the Village Council desires to adopt and establish requirements and other criteria as to paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation benefits, applicable to permanent employees of the Village; NOW, THEREFORE, the Village Council of the Village of Mendota Heights resolves as follows: (1) 31PLOYEE HOLIDAYS: Permanent employees, except for emergency work and the con- tinued performance of vital Village functions, shall have a day off on the following holidays: New Years Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas. If the holiday falls on a Saturday, then it shall be observed on the preceding Friday; and if the holiday falls on a Sunday, it shall be observed on the following Monday. Permanent employees required to work, as set forth above, shall have the equivalent time -off at a mutually convenient time sub- sequent to the holiday. A permanent full-time employee shall receive holiday pay equivalent to his regular rate for a normal eight-hour day. A per- manent part-time employee shall receive holiday pay equivalent to his average daily rate, as calculated and determined from the employeets payroll records for the last sixty (60) days immediately preceding the holiday. For purposes of holiday pay, the following definitions shall apply: (a) A permanent employee shall be any employee that has been designated and elevated by Village Council action to the status of a permanent employee. (b) A full-time employee shall be any employee working a minimum eight-hour day. (c) A part-time employee shall be any employee normally working less than an eight-hour day. (2) SICK LEAVE All permanent Village employees shall be entitled to accrue sick leave at the rate of five -sixth's (5/6) day per month, starting as of January 1, 1966. Every such employee shall be allowed to accrue up to and including one hundred twenty (120) days of sick leave. Permanent_ part-time and full-time employees shall be entitled to sick leave benefits. The amount of compensation for any day(s) absent, due to personal illness and taken as sick leave, shall be determined in the same manner as set forth above for a paid holiday. Sick leave benefits shall not be applicable when the employee's absence from work is due to a illness which is directly connected with his Village,employment and, accordingly, compensable under insurance coverage. Any employee absent from work for three or more consecutive days due to a personal illness shall, before requesting and receiving sick leave pay, provide the Village of Mendota Heights with a letter or report from his attending physician, setting forth the nature of his illness and that the employee has made a satisfactory recovery in a mannerto resume employment. (3) VACATION All permanent Village employees shall be entitled to one week paid vacation after one year of employment, two weeks paid vacation after two years of employment, and three weeks after ten years of employment., The vacation benefit shall be applicable to permanent part- time and full-time employees. The amount of compensation for vacation time shall be determined in the same manner as set forth above for a paid holiday. For purposes of determining the eligible vacation time, the -2- starting date shall be that date on which the employee commenced employment with the Village of Mendota Heights, either as a temporary or permanent employee. The annual vacation period shall commence on May 1 and end on the 30th day of April, of the year following. An employee must have been designated and elevated to the status of a permanent employee prior to May 1, or the start of the vacation period, to be eligible for a paid vacation. A permanent employee,having worked less than one year as of the 1st day of May, shall receive paid vacation on a pro- rated basis, or five-sixthts (5/6) of a day per month for each full month of employment with the Village prior to May 1.
