RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING POLICY FOR CONTROLLING
SCREENING OF FIRE HYDRANTS '
WHEREAS, City Ordinance No. 702, Section 1.1, prohibits obstructing,
encroaching upon, encumbering or otherwise interfering with any public
grounds, streets, or easements held by the City for street or utility
purposes; and
WHEREAS, City Ordinance No. 1007 adopts by reference the Minnesota a
Uniform Fire Code; and' -
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Uniform Fire .Code; FirMar Chap. 42(b)
prohibits the obstructing of Fire Hydrants or Fire Appliances; and
WHEREAS, the City Fire Marshal has expressed to -the City Council a
problem relating to some property owners screening hydrants in front of
their property with plantings causing the fire'department-difficulty in
immediately discerning and using the hydrant; and
WHEREAS, the,City Fire Marshal has ekpressed a desire to cooperate
with the property. owners in permitting a controlled -screening of these
hydrants;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council adopts the
following policy for the purpose of controlling the screening of fire
hydrants:
Plantings and/or other screening will be allowed at the
location of any public water system hydrant providing the
property owner complies with the following standards.
1. The planting or screening remains completely behind a
line of sight which is parallel to the street and to
the property side'of the hydrant.
.2. The planting and/or screening, is maintained so that a

fliydrant•.to the` planting 'or screening exists.
