RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING SAFETY COMMITTEE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MIT
The City Council recognizes its responsibility to provide safe
for its employees. The effectiveness of municipal services is
part determined by an environment free from interruptions in tl

Such safety organization shall be known as the Mendota Heights Safety
Committee. Its composition shall consist of, but not be limited to,
representatives from the Police Department, Public Works, Fire Department.
and General Offices. The City Administrator shall appoint the Safety
Committee members. Duties and responsibilities of the Safety Committee
shall be as set forth in By-laws prepared by the Committee and approved
by the City Council.
The City Council recognizes the Occupational Safety and Health Act of
1970 and associated state legislation. Legally applicable federal and state
standards for working conditions, structural limits and acceptable work
practices shall be recognized as a continuous and integral pari of the mun-
icipal organization, operations and objectives.
The City Council recognizes that the premiums for employee insurance
and other forms of insurance to provide financial assistance in case of
on-the-job injury are disbursed at the expense of the tax payers of the
City. The City's officers and employees shall make every effort to reduce
on-the-job and other accidents, thereby reducing accident insurance premium
costs..
The City Council, through the City Administrator, shall hold each depart-
ment supervisor responsible for maintaining a safe work environment for the
employees of that department and a safe environment for the public in areas
of that supervisor's responsibility. The departmental supervishors are also
responsible for the prompt reporting of work related and public injuries or
damage and subsequently suggesting remedial action to prevent said injuries
from recurring.
Department supervisors will be granted necessary authority -to enforce
established safety rules and procedures and take other obvious l necessary
immediate, safety related actions subject to the; l_timate. approv�l•of the_C:

Administrator who shall inform the Council. Each employee shall be responsible
for maintaining safe work practices and safe City premises. Each employee
without authority to immediately correct observed safety hazards shall
immediately inform his or her supervisor in writing of such hazards on City
premises or under City control. Each employee shall also inform his super-
visor in writing of all injuries to employees or others on City premises,
connected with City operations or under City control;
Departmental supervisors shall post a copy of this resolution in a
manner so as to best remind departmental personnel of its objectives and
requirements.
