Res 1983 - 74 Expressing Intent to Negotiate Joint Powers Watershed Management Organization in Response to MN State Statute, Chapter 509, 1982 Surface Water Management LawCITY OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION NO. 83-74 RESOLUTION EXPRESSING INTENT TO NEGOTIATE JOINT POWERS WATERSHED MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION IN RESPONSE TO MINNESOTA STATE STATUTE, CHAPTER 509, 1982 SURFACE WATER MANAGEMENT LAW WHEREAS, 1982 Minnesota State Statute, Chapter 509, has mandated the creation of Watershed Management Organizations for the planning of surface water quality and quantity; and WHEREAS, the City of Mendota Heights is involved in the Lower Mississippi Watershed, which involves at least seven other municipalities; and WHEREAS, the law mandates the formation of a Watershed District if inter - county drainage is not managed by a locally formed Water Management Organization; and WHEREAS, the City Council has been advised of the Watershed Management Organization options to meet the mandates of this law. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Mendota Heights, Minnesota: 1. The City prefers the option of a Joint Powers Watershed Management Organization. 2. The City intends to actively cooperate in the development and enactment of a Joint Powers Agreement amongst all municipalities in the Lower Mississippi Watershed.
