DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA
RESOLUTION NO. 85- 27
RESOLUTION URGING LOCAL LEGISLATORS TO SUPPORT THE
LEAGUE OF MINNESOTA CITIES PROPOSED FORMULA FOR
LOCAL GOVERNMENT AID
WHEREAS, Local Government Aid (LGA) has become a critical revenue source
for Minnesota local governments; and
WHEREAS, the distribution formula currently in place has resulted in gross
discrepancies between cities that have become intolerable; and
WHEREAS, despite sharp differences of opinion on LGA, member cities of the
League have worked tirelessly over the past two years to.reach concensus on a
formula that is in the overall best interest of local governments in the State; and
WHEREAS, the culmination of this effort was adoption of a proposed formula
at the 1985 legislative conference; and
WHEREAS, it is crucial for both local and State financial stability that a
compromise formula be adopted that can withstand the test of time.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Mendota Heights
that MendBta,Heights strongly urges the legislature to enact the League -proposed
formula.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that legislators are urged to reject alternative
formulas put forth by "special interest" groups of cities that may have short-term
appeal to particular cities and legislative districts, but will not lead to the
overall best interest of Minnesota cities, nor their long-term financial
stability.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Mendota Heights this 19th day of March,
1985.
