Res 1984 - 74 Resolution on the Public Employees Retirement SystemCITY OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION NO. 84- 74 RESOLUTION ON THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT SYSTEM WHEREAS, most of the employees of the City of Mendota Heights belong to the Public Employees Retirement Association; and WHEREAS, a number of Public Employees Retirement Association Board members have raised significant questions relating to PERA Board election procedures, to the appointment process used to hire an interim Executive Director of the Public Employees Retirement Association, as well as other administrative matters; and WHEREAS, the present method for electing PERA board members results in electing only those with such financial backing as to permit expensive mailed information campaigns, permitting a single organization or individual to determine board membership; and WHEREAS, greater diversity on the board would assure that decisions of that body are better considered; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Mendota Heights, Minnesota, requests the following actions: 1. That the legislature conduct an investigation into PERA Board election practices and also into the administration of PERA. 2. That the legislature consider amending the statutes which determine the method by which the PERA board is constituted to provide that three fewer members shall be elected by the PERA general membership and three addit- ional members shall be appointed by the governor from among non-PERA member citizens of Minnesota. 3. That immediate action be taken to remove the interim Executive Director and to provide for an open process to select a Public Employees Retirement Association Executive Director.
