Res 1993 - 32 Requesting Dakota County Board of Commissioners to Continue in their Reports to Provide Juvenile Detention for Dakota CountyCITY OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA RE30LUTION Date June 1, 1993 Resolution 93-32 Motion By Councilmember Smith ' Seconded By Councilmember Koch RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DAKOTA COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS CONTINUE IN THEIR EFFORTS TO PROVIDE JUVENILE DETENTION FOR DAKOTA COUNTY WHEREAS, Juvenile detention is important for the safety and well-being of the citizens of Dakota County; WHEREAS, Juvenile detentions is also important for the safety and well- being of juvenile offenders; and WHEREAS, Dakota County needs secure detention in the 1990's and into the next century; and DJHEREAS, The lack of juvenile detention creates a hardship for law enforcement personnel in Dakota County as well as for parents and citizens; and WHEREA3, The contract for juvenile detention with Anoka County is expected to end in mid-1994. Officers will once again experience time consuming problems with a lack of bed space and transportation. WHEREAS, There has been more than a 50� increase in juvenile delinquency petitions filed by the Dakota County Attorney; and WHEREA3, Juvenile arrests for violent crimes have risen 62� in Dakota County from 1985 to 1991. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Mendota Heights: 1. We request continued participation of the Dakota County Chiefs of Police Association in the planning process for secure detention in Dakota County. 2. We ask that the Dakota County Board of Commissioners and County Staff continue to see juvenile detention as an issue of utmost importance to the safety and well-being of the citizens of Dakota County. 3. The City Clerk is directed to forward certified copies of this Resolution to the Dakota County Board of Commissioners.
