Dear Mr. Johnson:

Thanks very much for sending us the Notice of the Hearing
`
to be held on Tuesday, January 23, 1973, at 8:00 P.M. at
y
Somerset Heights School regarding the matter of improve-
ments by grading and surfacing of streets in the so-
called Somerset Heights View Addition in which we live.
r
First, I would like to thank and compliment the Village
and Council for mailing copies of the published notice
4
to both my home and business so that my family and
-`
others, who will be affected directly are fully notified
'
of the Hearing.
I regret that I will be out of town on the date of the
'
Hearing but would like to go on record as being in favor
of the proposed street improvements. I understand the
1
estimated total cost of the improvements, which will
basically provide for surfacing of the streets after
grading and stabilization along with provisions for
;
mainly above surface storm drainage, will be in the
y
vicinity of $128,000.00 for the total project or
approximately $10.00 per running foot for the property .'
holders. In the case of our home, the total cost will
r
be $1,350.00 which, I understand, may be paid over a ;
period of years up to possibly ten years and added to ;
pt
our tax bill. '
1
We would like to , as stated above, go on record as
r,
being in favor'of this proposed improvement. In the
f:
past they have used make -shift efforts to keep the
K.,
streets under some kind of passable repair, which wer
completely inadequate. These efforts included oilin.c

in summer months and I would say that after each oiling
there was approximately $100.00 of damage to our home
and furnishings and automobile as a result of the
oiling, not to mention kids running around with the oil
and tar all over them. Immediately this will recapture
part of the cost of the improvements by the expense
saving by eliminating the damage done by the oiling.
In addition, there are, as I understand, no plans for
curbing or sidewalks, which will leave the area under
tt', -il
consideration with the same type of country atmosphere
which we would favor retaining..
Last, but not least, the costs, as are any costs, are
bitter pills to swallow;. but, the market value of my
home, and I am sure the others, will increase by this
amount necessary for the improvements. We have a good
village, a good school system, which makes Mendota
Heights a desirable place to live and which holds up
property values and I feel that this additional
improvement will continue to hold and improve the
property values.
