As part of the bid proposal a portion of the Bourn Lane asphalt surfacing, no longer needed for access, will be removed and a barricade installed. Demolition operations may begin late next week and final site restoration completed in spring. This lot, when cleared, will become part of the City’s 13 acre (+ or -) site located south of LeMay Lake along TH 55. New Year’s Eve Update The Police Department reports that Mendota Heights had a very quiet New Year’s Eve – They suspect that the cold weather may have had something to do with that. Our officers did participate in two “saturations,” one funded by the Federal Government and one by the MN Department of Public Safety. The one funded by the Feds had its briefing here at City Hall and included our officers along with five State Troopers. This one went from 2000 Hrs to 0400 hrs. The saturation funded by the State, funneled through the Dakota County Traffic Safety Group had it’s briefing at Eagan PD and included officers from all the eleven Dakota County cities and the Sheriff’s Department. (Sgt Garlock tells me that although quotas are illegal, officers who participated in these saturation details are required to make at least two stops per hour). Our bars had lots of cabs running and lots of cars still parked in the lots in the morning, which is the way it is supposed to be. Recycling Update Jake attended a meeting of the Local Solid Waste Staff on Thursday, where County Staff informed the Cities that funding for the recycling grant has been increased. As the cost for funding recycling activities has gone up, funding from the County has not. The County Board recently voted to increase the amount, which means that we will receive additional funding in 2008. The group also discussed electronics recycling in regards to community collections events. It looks very positive at this point that we will be able to offer free recycling of electronics to our residents at the Spring Clean Up Day (Saturday, May 3, 2008).
