New Commissioners
This Tuesday, the City Council interviewed seven candidates for openings on the Parks
and Recreation and Airports Relations Commissions. We had seven very strong
candidates which made it a tough decision. I would like to congratulate and welcome
the following new members:
Parks and Recreation Commission:
Maureen Sullivan Brackey
Liz O’Brien
Michael Toth
Airport Relations Commission:
Ken Reed
Lyle Odland
We will be saying thanks and goodbye to the departing commissioners at the Monday
February 4 City Council Meeting.
Fire Department Dance
Also at the Tuesday night meeting, City Council gave the Fire Department the green
light to plan for a dance in conjunction with this summer’s City Park Celebration. The
FD has already made arrangements to have the “Rocking Hollywoods” perform. It
looks like the event will be held at Mendota Plaza on the Saturday of the parks
celebration. More details will come as FD irons them out.
Runway Reconstruction Update
This past fall the airport shut down 12R, also known as the Southern Parallel Runway
in order to reconstruct a portion of the runway. This resulted in more flights off of
12L (the Northern Parallel Runway) and over the City of Mendota Heights. A segment
of 12L was originally planned for reconstruction in late 2008. However, with the
Republican National Convention occurring, the Metropolitan Airports Commission has
decided to push back the project until late 2009. Our citizens can expect greatly
reduced air traffic while that project is underway.
Dakota County HiPP Sustainability Summit
Dakota County High Performance Partnership is hosting a summit on sustainable
development on Wednesday, January 30 at the Rosemount community Center. This is
a chance for staff, Councils and Commissioners to learn about and discuss
opportunities to promote sustainable development across the County.
City Offices Closed
City Offices will be closed this Monday, January 21 in observance of Martin Luther
King, Jr. Day.
