2008-02-01 Friday NewsAs in the past, each week the Friday News goes out to all City Council Members, Commission Members, City Staff and various individuals in- terested in what is going on at City Hall. The format has been the same for many years. Some of us here at City Hall, that have been with the city for many of those years thought that the “Friday News” needed a makeover. A few formats have been tried, but we still felt the format needed a lift. The information that is in the Friday News will remain very similar to what you have been receiving and we hope you like our new format and continue to enjoy this weekly newsletter. The “New” Friday News F R I D A Y N E W S February 1, 2008 Going Green Together Ultan Duggan, Jake Sedlacek and I attended a Going Green Together Sustainability Sum- mit at the Rosemount Community Center on Wednesday morning. The event was put on by the Dakota County High-Performance Partnership (HiPP) group, and featured a num- ber of good speakers. The event was attended by Council Members, Commissioners, Staff persons and citizens from the various communities across Dakota County. The speakers described the need to encourage sustainability in our day-to-day operations, as well as the role Cities can play in being a change agent in the market place. We’re bound to hear more on this topic and the role the City of Mendota Heights can play in reducing pollution and increasing energy efficiency. Closing on Pilot Knob Phase II What a difference a year makes! Last year at this time, the City was hoping that we might garner enough interest to support preserving 15 acres of land owned by Acacia Cemetery as open space. Through the hard work of Trust for Public Land, Pilot Knob Preservation Association, Dakota County, MN DNR and other groups, the City of Mendota Heights closed on the land this week. Everyone was smiles on Thursday as I signed on the dotted line for the purchase. Jake, Ultan and Sandra Krebsbach attended the signing in down- town Minneapolis. A formal celebration of the purchase will be planned for sometime this Spring or Summer. 2007 Audit Starts This week the City was visited by Rhonda and Lindsay, Accountants from Tauges Red- path, who are performing the City’s 2007 Audit. They took up residence for the week in the Small Conference room where they worked with Kristen to gather information on the City’s financial activities for 2007. They are now gone; only to return in May to finish their work. U of M Climate Change Lecture University of Minnesota Alumni Association will be presenting a Climate Change Lec- ture by Mark Seeley at the Mendota Heights City Hall on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. This event is free.
