RNC IS OVER!
Now, after all the preparation, the anticipation, the worrying, the RNC is
finally over. Except for the three officers that we promised to help
St. Paul with (Chad, Brian, Bobby), Mendota Heights Police Department
had a relatively calm week. The only visible RNC activity in Mendota
Heights was the security at intersections as delegate buses traveled
through town on I-35E or TH110 to the Xcel. Chad and Brian were on
bike patrol and did make the front page of the Pioneer Press on Tuesday
(see attached).

The other fun news from the convention is, that our new Public Works Director, John
Mazzitello lived in Alaska before coming back to Minnesota and is a “close personal
friend” of the “Hottest Governor from the Coolest State” who is now the Republicans
nominee for Vice President.
PRIMARY NEXT WEEK
The Primary Election will be conducted next Tuesday. The absentee turnout has
been unusually slow with less than 60 ballots out. City Hall will be open this Satur-
day from 10 –3 for absentee voting. Staff will be setting up the precincts on Monday
and then on Tuesday the judges will arrive at the polls at 6 a.m. The polls are open at
7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. Although we are expecting a low turnout for the pri-
mary, we are having all the judges work because there are so many new ones that
need the experience before the General Election in November. We expect to have a
large turnout for the General Election.
Grama Sue
Congratulations go out to Sue Donovan (new secretary in PD) for the birth of her
third grandchild. Tristan Lawrence Donovan was born at 11:15 p.m.on Friday, Au-
gust 29th , weighed 8 lbs. and was 21 inches long. He is healthy and labor went
quite well.
Laura Bush
The first lady was spotted on Wednesday at the Pool and Yacht Club for a meet and
greet with the delegates from the State of New Mexico. She waved at Chief
Aschenbrener, Sgt. Garlock and Officer Jerry Murphy.
