Mendota Mall Update
.
Paster Enterprises presented their plan for remodeling The Mendota Mall
to the City Council at this Tuesday’s City Council meeting. The Planning
Commission had recommended approval of the proposal, but they did so
with thirty three conditions on their recommendation. The City Council
felt that a plan with thirty three conditions was not ready for approval.
The City Council discussed the proposal for 3 1/2 hrs and then, because
the City’s time limit was over for review, they had three options: approve
the proposal, deny the proposal, or if Paster Enterprises agreed to extend
the time limit, table the approval. Paster Enterprises agreed to a 180 day

extension, so, after the Mayor clearly got the Pasters to agree to make significant chang-
es to their plan based on what direction they were having from their discussion with the
City Council, they tabled consideration of the plan until their October 21st meeting.
National Night Out Update
This Tuesday was National Night Out and Mendota Heights had twelve neighbor-
hoods participate this year along with the main events occurring at Mendakota Park.
The weather was perfect and Mendakota Park’s parking lot was full, and with an esti-
mated 250 residents. Denise Urman, Brian Convery and Neil Garlock each visited
four of the neightborhood parties. Neil told me that his handcuffs were a big hit with
the kids, for some reason they all enjoyed being handcuffed. Lets hope he never has
to do it for real with any of them.
Elections
Election season is officially underway. The absentee ballots arrived this week and
can be picked up or mailed out starting today. Nancy told me this morning that she
has already mailed out three. The ballots are available today through September
8th.
Par 3 Party
This past Saturday 20+ Mendota Heights Commissioners, Council members and
their families took advantage of a beautiful summer morning to play a round of golf
at the Par 3. It was not only a great day to golf, but a nice chance to get to know
each other a little better, and to celebrate a year of operations at the golf course. The
lowest reported round that Jake heard was a 27, recorded by Rorie Perkins, Club-
house Manager Tom Perkin’s son. Paul Portz from the Parks and Recreation Com-
mission penciled in a 31, which Jake thinks is the lowest score for a commissioner
or council member. Rorie also took home bragging rights for longest putt and clos-
est to the pin. Can you say “Ringer?” Special thanks go out to Clubhouse Manager
Tom Perkins, as well as Mary and Rorie Perkins who had the clubhouse and
course looking great, and provided hot dogs, beans and all the fixings for every-
one.
