TWO FIRSTS AT NEXT WEEK’S
COUNCIL MEETING
Next Tuesday’s City Council meeting will include two firsts:
1.) The City Council meeting will begin at 7 pm instead of 7:30 pm; and
2.) The City Council meetings will begin being web cast for the first time.
Web Casting means that residents will now be able to go to the City’s web
site any time that they want, and on the front page click on “Watch
Government Meetings LIVE or on Demand” and view all, or part of, any
City Council meeting, Planning Commission meeting or Park and
Recreation meeting. Meetings will be preserved for viewing for up to one
year after they occurred. (See attached Press Release).

SUCCESSFUL 5k IN 2008
Sergeant Neil Garlock informed me this week that the annual 5K run this year was a very suc-
cessful event and that he was able to donate $2000 of the proceeds from the race to this years’
Special Olympics. The Special Olympics is sponsored by law enforcement agencies nationwide
and the Mendota Heights Police Department has been very actively involved in the event for
over 20 years. Officer Jen Larrive is the coordinator for the Dakota County Torch Run, Polar
Bear Plunge and the COP on TOP at Rainbow Foods. Way to go Mendota Heights Police De-
partment.
Fore!
There was a flurry of activity at the Par 3 this week – all the standard leagues, lessons, and open play, with a
couple of extras. Bjorkland Construction “went straight at the pin,” completing framing and a roof over the
new bathrooms, and demolishing the old bathrooms. On the course side, the Minnesota PGA hosted a Jr’s
event on Wednesday afternoon. Just under 70 youth, split into groups by gender and age went out looking for
birdies as they competed in a tournament at the Par 3. Staff continues to receive compliments on the condi-
tion of the course; we hope to move from maintenance to making improvements in the coming weeks.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!
4th of July
Next Friday is the 4th of July, which is a Federal Holiday and means the City Offices will be closed.
The City Council once again agreed to cooperate with Mendakota Country Club and sponsor a fireworks dis-
play for the community. Besides providing some funding for the fireworks the City also provides extra police
and fire protection for the event. The fireworks will be launched from the Mendakota Country Club begin-
ning about 10:00 P.M. The fireworks are visible from many locations in the City: Mendakota Park, Rogers
Lake Park, Mendota Plaza Shopping Center, The Village of Mendota Heights, City Hall, St. Thomas Academy
and Sibley High School to name some locations. Remember Mendakota Country Club is private property and
should not be used as a viewing location
