Sue McDermott is leaving Minnesota and the City of Mendota
Heights for the warmer climate of Avondale, Arizona. Sue has been
with the City for nearly 4 years, serving as City Engineer and Public
Works Director. We will miss her attention to detail, as well as her
good humored great personality around the office. Her coworkers
and colleagues all gathered at the Air Force Officer’s Club Thursday
night to wish her well in Avondale.

League of MN Cities Insurance Trust
Jake and I met with Bernie Szczesniak, our new Risk Manager Representa-
tive from the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT) on
Wednesday. Bernie and Jake hit it off right away (I think it had something to
do with names that both are hard to pronounce ). Bernie summarized the
services LMCIT offers to our community, and reviewed a couple of reports
on our claims the last couple of years. Bernie feels that MH has a good
track record, and he promised to continue to work with us to find ways to try
to lower our insurance premiums.
Noise Ordinance
The City Council discussed a proposed noise ordinance this Tuesday at the Council
Meeting. Currently, the City does not have a noise ordinance. The Council would like
Staff to conduct some further research into the issue, and bring it back to the July 1
Council Meeting. If you have feedback on times and activities to be addressed, let
Jake, Mike or me know before the next Council meeting.
School Superintendent Visits Council Meeting
Superintendent, Jay Haguen, School District #197 visited the City Council meeting this
week to provide an update on the school’s activities. In his presentation, Jay gave us
information on their remodeling work, teaching initiatives and the school’s history. He
told us that our district is one of the state’s oldest and that in fact, they will be celebrat-
ing their 150th year anniversary next year. Debi McConnell, one of our residents is the
volunteer chair of the celebration, and she gave me the attached memo that she will be
sending out to some 12,000 alumni to tell them about the celebration and ask for their
help and input.
