EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TRAINING
On Monday, Ultan and Jake attended Incident Command Training 402, an emergency prepared-
ness training put on by Dakota County. Greg Hayes, Fire Chief with the Mdewakanton Fire De-
partment presented the material, which was an outline of the Incident Command System. As
there are literally weeks worth of material on the subject, this training was intended to be a very
broad view of the topic. Mr. Hayes did a nice job of presenting the material, relating incident
command concepts to recent events – Katrina, Hugo Tornado, Oklahoma City and the like.
HIGH PERFORMANCE PARTNERSHIP (HiPP)
GREENING INITIATIVE
On Tuesday Jake attended a meeting for a new Dakota County HiPP project – sustainabil-
ity/greening. Representatives from Dakota County, Eagan, Lakeville, Rosemount, Farmington
and South St. Paul met to discuss goals for the project, specifically relating to promoting sustain-
ability in government operations. This was the first meeting of a process which will go through
the years end, with the goal of finding cost effective methods to increase efficiency in all aspects
of our day-to-day operations. Jake said that the group brought a lot of different perspectives to
the table, he is looking forward to working on this project.
LOCAL SOLID WASTE STAFF
Jake attended a meeting of local solid waste staff from across Dakota County on Thursday. The
Recycling Association of Minnesota presented on their current activities, including public
awareness and providing recycling receptacles at Gas Stations. Each community gave updates
of recycling activities and community clean up events from around the County. There is a lot of
energy around living green these days, it’s a prime time to ramp up recycling activities!
