HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
Next week City officers will be closed both Monday and Tuesday for the Christmas Holiday. I
will be off the entire week. This week City Hall had its Annual Holiday Luncheon on
Wednesday. It was a potluck. After lunch, Sandie Thone had organized a “present bingo” where
everyone, who wanted to, brought a wrapped $10 present and numbers were drawn. Participants
in order, either selected a wrapped present or robbed one from someone who already had one.
There were many disappointments when presents were “robbed”. I did not realize how mean
some of our co-workers could be? I think everyone had a good time whether they got their ideal
present or not. (Sam missed out on his beer, but did get a beautiful yellow spam shirt). Thanks
to Sandie and everyone who worked to put this event together.
Becky Pentel carried on her tradition of wrapping City Hall’s Christmas presents as her gift to
us. She had extended her hours this year due to its popularity last year and even then still some
presents missed the deadline? Thanks to Becky. She does a wonderful job.
PANDEMIC JUNKIE?
The Dakota County High Performance Partnership (HiPP) has taken on the topic of Pandemic
Influenza Preparedness. Is there anyone else on our staff who would want to participate besides
Jake Sedlacek? Jake is co-chairing a committee on building community cooperation with Joe
Lynch, the City Administrator for Inver Grove Heights. On Thursday of this week, Jake
attended the Dakota County Domestic Preparedness Committee to discuss the committee goals,
and encourage further input from emergency managers on the topic. Pandemic Preparedness is
no small task for HiPP, and any progress we can make in building cooperation across our Dakota
County communities will be important for all of us. Jake says that after this project, he will try
to avoid the flu.
