ELECTIONS
Next Tuesday September 12th is Primary Election Day, so Kathy Swanson and crew are busy
making all the final preparations to be ready for the voters. City Hall will also be open 10 a.m.
to 3 p.m. this Saturday for absentee voting. Due to a conflict with election day the Parks and
Recreation Commission changed their meeting date to Thursday, September 14th.
AIRPORT RELATIONS COMMISSION MEETING
The Airport Relations Commission also rescheduled their meeting date this month to
Wednesday, September 20th in order to be able to have both of the City’s Legislators, Senator
Jim Metzen and Representative Rick Hanson attend their meeting to discuss airport related
legislation.
JAKE SEDLACEK
This Tuesday the City Council appointed Jake Sedlacek to replace Patrick Hollister and be the
City’s new Assistant to the City Administrator. Jake comes to us from the City of Burnsville
where he is currently the Licensing Coordinator, Emergency Management Coo rdinator, Special
Projects Coordinator, Police Grants Coordinator, Accreditation Manager, Tobacco and Alcohol
Compliance Coordinator, Weed and Seed Coordinator, and Recreation Programmer. He was
with Burnsville for 8+ years. Jake beat out 98 other very highly qualified candidates, so we have
very high expectations for him. Jake is married and has a 4 year old daughter with a second
child due to be born soon. Jake’s first day is September 27th.
EMMY FOSTER
Emmy informed me this week that she has been selected to be the “Assistant to the City
Administrator” in Rosemount, MN. Her last day here will be next Friday. We would all like to
wish Emmy the best in her new position, which will be much closer to home. She lives in
Farmington.
MEDIA WEEK
This week seemed to be media week. I was interviewed on Thursday by Eric Escola, WCCO
Radio about the City’s feelings concerning the new blinking yellow turn arrow that MNDOT
installed on an experimental basis at the intersection of TH’s 110 & 149.
Krist i P iehl, Reporter from KSTP Channel 5 TV News interviewed me relative to a problem with
the Fire Department’s web site. I was the LEAD story on Channel 5 on the 10 p.m. news.
Brian Convery was interviewed by MPR this week for his participation in a “Spanish for Police
Officers” class. Brian Convery, Jen Fordham and Chad Willson are all taking the Spanish for
Police Officers Course being taught by Dakota County Vo-Tech at West St. Paul City Hall.
Over the weekend Channel 5 had a videotographer ride with Officer Denise Urmann while she
was working the Safe and Sober Campaign. She was on the news twice on Sunday morning,
when they did two segments on Safe and Sober.
ISC 100 AND 200 CLASSES
In order to meet the new FEMA National Response Plan requirements, Police, Fire and Public
Works employees attended Incident Command System Classes this week at the Fire Hall
Thursday night. A repeat class is being held this Saturday for employees who were unable to
attend Thursday.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Danielson
City Administrator
