ELECTIONS NEWS
On Monday, the day before the election, Kathy Swanson found out that she would lose three
experienced election judges including one Chair-person, all to serious illnesses. She had to
promote one judge to Chair-person and found the other two new judges through contacts that
staff had. Kathy said these new judges, along with everyone else, did an excellent job on
Tuesday and we got through the Primary Election uneventfully. Thanks goes out to all the
Judges and Staff who volunteered their help.
Not a single voter used the new (expensive) HAVA ballot markers. Kathy predicted a 12-15%
voter turnout, and she was right. 15.2% turnout.
CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES
Filings for Mayor and the two City Council seats closed on Tuesday at 5 p.m. John Huber filed
to be re-elected as Mayor and Mary Jeanne Schneeman and Ultan Duggan filed to retain their
Council Member seats. They are all running for re-election unopposed. I think that this speaks
highly of all of them, that the public thinks that they are doing a great job and that they do not
need to be replaced. Way to go!
SAGE MARKET
Bob Kowalski has notified the City staff that his new Sage Market and Wine Bar will have a
private (Invitation Only) opening on September 28, from 6-8 p.m. at The Village. He will have
his Grand Opening sometime shortly after that.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Danielson
City Administrator
