SAFETY CAMP
The 15th Annual Safety Camp was held this Tuesday through Thursday in South St. Paul at
Kaposia Park. The cities of South St. Paul, West St. Paul and Mendota Heights all cooperated to
put the event together. There were 150 kids (MH had 40 kids, it is an extremely popular event,
and we have to limit the number of kids). The Opening Ceremony, which included Senator Jim
Metzen, South St. Paul Mayor Beth Bauman, the State Patrol Helicopter piloted by Jim England
(WSP City Council Member) and other Dignitaries , was held Tuesday morning. During the
three days the kids are exposed to Fire Safety, Seatbelt use, first a id (covered by Red Cross),
paramedics, k id ’s fingerprinting- covered by an insurance company, Dako ta County’s canine
unit , the DNR showing how to keep ticks away, and many more great events. It is three days of
intensive safety training. South St. Paul VFW provided the lunches. Closing Ceremonies were
held on Thursday at 5:30 pm where the kids did a little program, including the singing of songs
and making presentations. Also, a couple bikes were given away. Then everyone was treated to
a hot dog supper. Thanks to Mario, Brian Convery, Teresa Ganglehoff, Ken Wiesenberger and
Mickey Henne for their part in making this year’s event a big success.
FILM FUN FROM THE 40’s, 50’s, and BEYOND
District 197 Community Education through its Older Adult program sponsors “Seminars for
Inquiring Minds sponsors a film appreciation seminar. Last year this group utilized the council
chambers for a series film presentations and discussions. The Thompson Park Activity Center
asked if we would allow this group to again use our council chambers on Thursday mornings
from ten to noon beginning on September 21st and running thru October 26th. Last years group
averaged about twenty people per session and presented no problems with normal city hall
operations. Staff informed them they were welcome to use our facility for this purpose. See
attached information on other seminars offered under this program
Respectfully submitted,
