POW IN MENDOTA
This Friday beginning at 5 PM there will be a Native American Pow Wow held on the grounds at
St. Peter’s Church. The Pow Wow is open to the public and is a good opportunity to learn more
about the Native American Culture. There are tents there with vendors selling Native American
goods. There will be many tribes represented at the Pow Wow, not just the Mendota
Mdwankanton. Saturday there will be two Grand Marches, with a traditional feast at 4 PM.
($5 donation requested) The event ends at 6 PM on Sunday.
COMMUNITY SERVICES
A young women and her friend who was ordered to do community service by a judge contacted
the Police Department to see if they had any work that she could do. The Police Dept had them
clean out the garage, organize equipment, paint , and do other general housekeeping things. They
did an excellent job and saved the City some money and/or work from full timers.
ABSENTEE VOTING
Absentee voting started today (Friday) for the Primary election and runs through September 11th,
the day before the election. If you are going to be out of town, come in and vote now. It is a
short ballot (only one side of a ballot) so the turn out will probably be light.
