PILOT KNOB DEDICATION
Next Thursday at 3:00 P.M. is the dedication of Pilot Knob (agenda attached). All City Commissioners
and other interested parties are encouraged to attend the event. In conjun ction with this event, Historian
Bruce White has positioned a number of panels in the lobby of City Hall with educational and interesting
photos and documents on them telling the story about the history of Pilot Knob. They are definitely
worth looking at – so take the time and give them a look the next time you are at City Hall. (I learned that
the Minnesota River was first called the St. Peter River). Bruce White also left a supply of “Over the
Years” publication featuring an article on Pilot Knob. The publication is for sale at the front desk for
$5.00 and any proceeds will be used to help restore the Pilot Knob site.
MENDOTA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VISITS
Julie Weisenbecker’s third grade students from Mendota Elementary School toured City Hall this
Wedn esday afternoon. Pat Hollister was the tour guide, and Pat was very impressed with the kid’s
questions and demeanor. After they toured upstairs, they went downstairs to the Police Department,
where Brian Convery was their guide for the police portion of the tour.
PLANNING COMMISSION
Eight planning applications were recommended for approval by the Planning Commission as a result of
their Tuesday evening meeting. Seven of these planning cases will be on the June 6th City Council
agenda. The application by T -Mobile for an antenna tower at City Hall will be on the June 20th City
Council agenda.
HEIGHTS HILITES
The 50 year commemorative edition of the Heights Hilites left the printers this Thursday and was on its
wa y to the post office to be delivered. H opefully, with no glitches at the post office residents will all be
getting them sometime next week. (Mail carriers have 10 days to deliver).
BUCKTHORN REMOVAL
The second volunteer buckthorn removal crew will be working at Pilot Knob this Saturday 9:00 A.M. to
12:00 P.M. The majority of the volunteers will be from six local Starbucks Coffee shops , the Sierra Club,
and Dakota Technical College.
MEMORIAL DAY
City offices will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Have a safe, fun, long weekend.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Danielson
