VILLAGE UPDATE
This We dnesday Council Member Schneeman, Sue McDermott and I met with Bob Kowalski and Ross Fefercorn at
the Sage Market for lunch and an update on “The Village”. Bob, who knows all the merchants at the Village, gave
us an update on how they all were doing, including the recently opened “Anytime Fitness”. He told us that his Sage
Market was doing fine after being open for only one month, his business is growing, but that the Market side of the
business was probably growing slower than the wine bar side. He told us that he was working with his shoppers to
try and tailor his merchandise to meet their needs. The Anytime Fitness manager stopped in while we were there
and reported to us that he already had 150 members, and that his goal was for 300 members.
After the updates were done, Ross had arranged with 50 City Officials and Builders from the Builders Association of
the Greater Kansas City area, who were in town, to stop by the Sage Market to receive a presentation from him on
“The Village” followed by a tour. Ross and I answered their questions after his presentation. The group seemed
impressed by the process and the project.
HALLOWEEN BONFIRE
Next Tuesday evening the City’s Annual Halloween Bonfire event will be held at Mendota Plaza. The brush pile
looks like we will once again have an impressive fire. It also looks like the brush deposits are within the specified
limits (kudos to the residents). The Fire Department will be there lighting and controlling the fire and passing out
free hot dogs and pop to everyone. There are no City meetings that night so we will all be able to come.
DAYLIGHT SAVINGS
This weekend daylight savings goes off, so remember to turn your clocks back Saturday night before you go to bed.
Then on Sunday change the batteries in your smoke detectors if they are not hard wired.
ERIC & ERYN’S NEW BABY BOY
Congratulations to Eric & Eryn Petersen who had a baby boy at 12:55 P.M. on Thursday. Lucas James weighed in at
7 lbs and 4 oz. and is 21-1/4” long. Everybody is doing well.
PARTY
Council Member Schneeman informed me this week that she is having a victory celebration party at her house on
November 7th after the next Cit y Council meeting (about 9:30). She is antic ipating that the Mayor and Council
Member Duggan and her will be “so lucky” as to win their seats back??? That day is also the Mayor’s 25th wedding
anniversary, so we will also be celebrating that event. City Staff, Commissioners and Council Members are all
invited by Council Member Schneeman to the celebration!!
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Danielson
City Administrator
