PROM WEEKEND
There have already been four traffic deaths related to proms in Minnesota this year. Henry
Sibley’s prom is this weekend, so the junior and senior classes at Sibley were presented with the
“mock fatal crash” this Thursday morning. The annual event was coordinated by Sergeant Neil
Garlock and the Sibley High School Chemical Health Awareness Coordinator. The “actors” set
up and had a dress rehearsal for the presentation Wednesday night and did their performance
Thursday morning. The presentation was very well done by those involved. Kudos to the police
officers, firefighters, ambulance crew, corner, state patrol, and of course the high school kids
who were the mock crash victims. Hopefully, the kids take the program seriously and we have a
safe prom season again this year.
“NO PARKING 2:00 A.M. TO 6:00 A.M.”
At this Tuesday’s meeting, the City Council, as a result of receiving numerous “on street ”
parking complaints, enacted a 2:00 A.M. to 6:00 A.M. “No Parking” ordinance. News of this
ordinance was published the next day in the Pioneer Press and the City staff received several
complaint calls from homeowners about the ordinance – the complaints that I fielded were all
from homeo wners who had children with cars home from college for the summer.
NOC MEETING
Wednesday afternoon was the Noise Oversight Committee (NOC) meeting. The main focus of
the NOC’s agenda was to discuss noise complaints from Burnsville about operations off the end
of the new runway – 17/35. Apparently airplanes are being directed by the FAA controllers to
fly over populated areas versus flying down the Minnesota River Valley like was anticipated in
the Part 150 study. The NOC is working with the FAA to try to have their procedures changed
to remove planes from flying over Burnsville’s neighborhoods and down the unpopulated River
Valley.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Danielson
