NEW POLICE SECRETARY STARTS
Sandi Thone’s “promotion” upstairs from the Police Department to replace Judy Wonick left a
hole in the Police Department to fill. Christina Hoss started this week replacing Sandi to job
share with Kim Henning. Kim is expecting her baby the first week in June and then plans to take
two months of maternity leave. Christina has agreed to work full-time while Kim is gone.
Christina is a Mendota Heights resident and has a ver y diverse and interesting work history.
SPRING CLEAN UP
Remember tomorrow is the City’s 12th annual Spring Clean Up Day. We start accepting
materials beginning at 8:00 A.M. and work until 2:00 P.M. Paster Enterprises was once again
gracious enough to let us use the back of their shopping center as the location for this event.
Staffing for the event is by City volunteers. The professionals are: “Green Man” recycles tires,
“Scrap Busters” recycles metals, “Nitti Sanitation/Lightning Disposal” provides the packer
trucks and roll offs for home remodeling debris, and this year we’ve added “Certified Appliance
Recycling” recycles electronics. J.R. Appliances will be picking up appliances curbside on
Monday, May 8th (per usual). Good weather is predicted – so we hope the weather forecasters
are correct for once.
T-MOBILE UPDATE
Much to the satisfaction of a City Council Chambers full of residents, this Tuesday evening the
City Council voted unanimously to direct the City Attorney to prepare a resolution informing T-
Mobile that the City is no longer interest ed in leasing any part of Wentworth Park for them to
construct a 120 foot tall communication tower. Since the public hearing at the April Planning
Commission meeting was continued, this item will be back on the May Planning Commission
agenda. Staff members have been in contact with T-Mobile since the City Council’s decision
and in light of their action, T-Mobile has indicated their willingness to withdraw their
Wentworth Park application. Should the City not receive a letter of withdrawal , it is anticipated
that the Planning Commission would recommend denial of the application.
Meanwhile, T-Mobile continues to purse the ir application for a tower at the City Hall site.
NDC
This Thursday morning, Councilmember Duggan and I attended the monthly Northern Dakota
Chamber of Commerce meeting to update them on activities in Mendota Heights, and
particularly the 50th year celebration. The meeting was well attended with businesses from West
St. Paul, South St. Paul and Mendota Heights who were all very interested to hear about the
celebration.
NEXT CONDO BUILDING
Ross Feffercorn is having a ground breaking ceremony for his second condominium building
next Tuesday, May 9th at 11:00 A.M. This 20 unit building will be located immediately west of
the 16 unit building that is currently built and being sold out.
NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSLETTER
Attached is a copy of a newsletter that I received from Councilmember Schneeman. Her Cherry
Hills neighborhood has just begun publishing the newsletter. I think that it’s a great example
that other neighborhoods could copy to do their own publications.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Danielson
