STATE OF THE CITY
Every year the Northern Dakota County Chamber of Commerce schedules “State of the City”
addresses with all the Mayors in Dakota County. Mayor Huber presented his “State of the City”
address this Tuesday morning at 8:00 A.M. in the City Council Chambers. Town Square TV
broadcasted the address live and will replay it on Channel 18, beginning next Tuesday, March
16th, at 6:00 P.M., and then Wednesday at noon and 7:00 P.M., Friday at 6:30 P.M., and Saturday
at 5:00 P.M. The Mayor made an excellent presentation and I encourage all of you to try and
watch one of the replays. Because 2006 is Mendota Heights’ 50th birthday, the Mayor took this
opportunity to not only talk about the City’s present, but to also look back at some of its history.
MADD AWARDS
Congratulations go out to both Police Sergeant Neil Garlock and Police Officer Steve Meyer
who received awards from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) this week. Neil received a
distinguished service award and Steve was nominated for State Rookie of the Year award. This
Wednesday, Council Member Vitelli and I attended the statewide recognition awards luncheon
held in the Bloomington City Hall where we and watched Neil and Steve receive their awards.
We were amazed to hear the numbers – the top officer was a Minnesota Highway Patrol Officer
who works in our district and issued about 180 DUIs last year. Most of his arrests are made in
the vicinity of Mendota Heights and he uses our intoxilizor and the state patrol work station to
process the perpetrators.
METH INFORMATION
On Monday evening of this week, there was a program put on at Henry Sibley High School on
Methamphetamines. The program began at 6:30 P.M. and ran over our Cit y Council meeting
which began at 8:00 P.M. Council Members Vitelli and Duggan both attended the meth meeting
and were very impressed by its content. They learned about the ever increasing use of meth and
its devastation on the people who use it. To view a disturbing report on meth go to pbs.org on
the web and type in “meth”.
JANET
There was some sadness around City Hall on Thursday of this week, when we had our going
away part for Janet Bolger. Janet will be leaving us after next Tuesday for her new job in Eagan.
We did have a nice party for her, with some of her “old friends” showing up; Cari Lindberg,
Marc Mogan, Russ Wahl, Becky Pentel, Yvette Tillery and Council Member Sandra Krebsbach
all showed up to help us wish her the best in her new job. Janet received lots of nice gifts to take
with her; a beautiful vase from the Police Department, roses from Becky, tulips from Cari,
“bloomers” from Guy, an Eagan t-shirt from Sue and $100 gift card from everybody.
PILOT KNOB
Great River Greening began their maintenance work on Pilot Knob this week. They brought in a
brush cutter to mow down all the exotic plants. The next big operation will be on Saturday,
March 25th when 25 students from Dakota County Technical College have volunteered to
remove trees and brush and stockpile it where our Public Works Crew can get at it to chip it up.
If anyone else want to volunteer their help, please contact Guy (see attached email).
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Danielson
