NORTHLAND SAYS GOOD BY
Northland Insurance Company is moving from our Business Park to their downtown St. Paul Travelers
Headquarters offices today. The Mayor received an unofficial thank you and good-by email this week from
Mr. David Byrne, Northland Insurance and Mendota Heights resident. Mr. Byrne wanted to thank the
Mendota Heights Fire Department, Police and all the other City Staff members that have responded to calls
and have had other contacts with their organization over the years. He told the Mayor that Northland felt that
Mendota Heights was a great place to work and that they will miss us.
TRUTH-IN-TAXATION HEARING HELD
On Monday evening this week the City Council held this year’s Truth-In-Taxation Hearing where
Kristen Schabacker, Finance Director presented the details of the City’s 2005 budget proposal.
Kristen reported at the meeting that the preliminary levy had been reduced by $131,325. There
were 19 residents who attended the meeting to listen to the presentation. Four of those residents
made comments to the Council. The City Council will consider adoption of the 2005 budget and
final levy at their December 21st meeting.
GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY
On Thursday at 10:00 a.m. this week Ross Fefercorn held a groundbreaking event for the second
phase of his residential developments, the Linden Loft Condominiums. Council Members Duggan,
Vitelli and Schneeman were present at the event. We at City Hall have been fielding calls for years
from homeowners who tell us that they want to sell their homes and downsize into a condominium,
and they want to do it in Mendota Heights. Now, they will have a place to go. We think that there
is a large pent-up demand out there for this type of housing and that this condominium project will
be very successful.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jim Danielson
City Administrator
