NEW TV STAR
WCCO Television had seen an article in the paper on Mendota Heights’ rash of burglaries and showed up
last Sunday afternoon to do a story on it. After we said that is was OK, Bridgette Bornstein, who had
come out to do the story, gave us 20 minutes to get ready. Officer Jenny Hurst was interviewed along
with an affected resident. News must have been slow Sunday because it was the lead story on their 10
o’clock news and then was re-shown on Monday morning and posted on their website. I was watching
the Olympics so did not see the story until after I found out about it on Monday morning. I saw it on
Mike’s computer (he had a copy of it from ‘CCO’s web site). Jenny did a fantastic job. I’m sure that
Hollywood will be calling her soon. She got in a great plug in for the tip line and crime fund.
MOBILE LIBRARY
Last week I received a call from a resident asking whether the City desired to have the Dakota County
Mobile Library make a stop in town. This Tuesday the Council said that they did and that Town Center
or City Hall would be two possible stops. Roseanne Bryne, Dakota County Library Deputy Director was
at the Council meeting listening to the discussion. She told me afterwards that it was too late to schedule
any stops for this year, but that she thought Town Center would be a good stop and she would put it on
the schedule for next year.
LANDSCAPING AT TOWN CENTER
Ross Fefercorn, Town Center Developer, attended this Tuesday’s Council meeting to present his
Civic and Green Space proposal. (Landscaping for the areas owned by the City). He also
presented his signage plan. Council reviewed Ross’s plans and liked them – but sent them to
next Tuesday’s Planning Commission meeting for their review and comment before making a
final decision. The Planning Commission will review the plans at their August meeting and
make their findings, so that the plans can be brought back to the City Council for final review at
their September 7th meeting. Ross hopes to have approval of the plans at that time so that he can
begin work on them in time for the Fall Parade of Homes.
SCHOOL DISTRICT REFERENDUM
School Superintendent John Longtin was at the last City Council meeting along with his board
members, Kent Mogler, Max Saucedo and the Chair, Lani Bennett. Mr. Longtin and his board
members presented the City Council information on ISD 197’s upcoming referendum and
answered Council questions. They informed Council that residents interested in the details of the
referendum and how much it will cost them should visit their website at www.isd197.org.
