Mississippi River Critical Area Rulemaking
Last week Jake attending a meeting of the Metro-East Work Group providing feedback to the MN
DNR regarding the new Mississippi River Critical area rules. The meeting included representa-
tives from St. Paul, Lilydale, St. Paul Chamber of Commerce, Ford Motor Co, MN Builder’s Assn,
and concerned residents. Facilitated by the National Park Service and the MN DNR, the group
had a chance to provide feedback on the map proposing development districts and definitions for
the different designations. This is the second part of the planning process, the next time the
group convenes standards for development will be discussed. The MN DNR has been very clear
on the intent to protect the river as a resource, but also to work with the communities around the
river so that new rules fit with existing zoning and comprehensive plans. Jake has found the
DNR to be very good to work with and will continue to attend work group meetings.
