Livable Communities Grant Application Progresses to Second Step
The Livable Communities Advisory Committee met on Friday, September 26 for their initial review and
evaluation of the 35 LCDA applications. As a result of that meeting, the committee recommended
moving 17 applications on for further consideration. I'm happy to inform you the Mendota Heights
application for the Village project was recommended to move forward. The next stage of the process is
the Question and Answer sessions. They will be held on October 10th and 17th. Our project has been
scheduled for Friday the 10th at 10:50 a.m. Last year the City received $873,400 for funding for the
structured parking for the project. This year we have requested an additional $1,000,000 for the structured
parking. We’re excited that the application is moving forward and are hopeful about our chances for
success.
Flu Shots
For those interested, the flu shots have been scheduled for Tuesday, October 28 from 9 - 9:30 in the large

The City’s annual Halloween Bonfire is planned to be held on Friday evening, October 31, at its normal
location behind the Mendota Plaza Shopping Center. Once again, the members of the Mendota Heights

proposed that the City fund hot dogs and refreshments to be handed out by the members of the Fire
Department and other volunteers. Residents will be able to deposit their brush at the site beginning
thth
October 19 and ending October 29.

On Tuesday, the Planning Commission and the City Council met in a joint Council/Planning Commission
workshop this year. Some of the topics discussed included: variance criteria, in-fill development policy
and expectations of the City Planner. It was a great opportunity for the Council and Commissioners to
share thoughts and ideas about policies and procedures in the City Planning process.

Final Thought
st
For those of you that haven’t heard yet, I will be leaving the City as of October 31. I’ve decided to take
some time off from working to raise my daughter. If someone last year told me that I would be submitting
my letter of resignation in October, I would have said they were crazy. This decision has been incredibly
difficult. My experience at the City has been such a wonderful one. I think back over the last three years,
everything that has been accomplished and am so proud to have been a part of it. This is a wonderfully
warm and gracious community. This is the best City Council I have ever had the privilege to work for. I
have been so proud to work with each and every one of them. Their unwavering dedication to the City,
their desire to work together and “fly in formation,” and their brave decision-making ability made my
position a pleasure. I feel so fortunate to have worked with this wonderful staff as well. We have an
incredibly gifted group of people working for this City. Their dedication to their positions, to the City and
to each other is a rare thing today. They are extremely talented and professional in every sense of the
word. They made it a pleasure to come to work every day. The birth of my daughter has changed my life
in ways I never imagined. Although I will miss my position here a great deal, I know that I am making the
best decision for my family. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and this community. I’ve
learned a great deal from you and the City residents, as well as a great deal about myself over the last
three years. This has been the best experience I’ve ever had in municipal government. You should be
proud to be a part of such a wonderful organization. I know I will always be proud to say I was.
Respectfully Submitted,
