Mendota Heights Park Tour June/2015
Here is a summary of the observations/comments I noted during our
tour:
Rogers Lake Park
• Considerable trash on the surface of the water around the fishing
pier. Possibly public works could purchase a long handled net to
retrieve the trash.
• Grasses/plants planted around the shore by the fishing pier are
being trampled. Place a sign advising the area is being restored
please stay off.
• Discussion around placement of boat/canoe rack. One location
would work well but is out of sight and may thereby be more
susceptible to vandalism. Alternate site, which is more visible,
may be preferable as it would help prevent vandalism and also
visually communicate this new feature to the public.
• Skate Park
o Consideration needs to be given to resurfacing
o Rails on some of the features are missing and should be
replaced/repaired
o Skateboarder at the park commented there is a lot of trash
and bikers use the park and cause damage. Consider a sign
addressing both of these issues.
Mendokota Park
• Basketball surface in very bad shape. Consider sport court
resurfacing.
• Cedar shake shingles on pavilion and other structures need
replacing soon.
• Place regular trash barrel next to recycle barrel so it is clear there
are two options.
Marie Park
• There were concerns about the new surface in the hockey rink,
puddling, rough surface in one corner, crown appears too high
creating too much runoff during flooding in the winter.
• Tennis courts surface needs attention.
Wentworth Park
• Cedar shake shingles on structures need replacing.
• Trail near ballfield needs attention.
• Hockey boards scheduled to be replaced this summer.
• Swampy conditions cause problems with the hockey ice. If there
was consideration to install a hard surface, it would be efficient to
do it while the boards are down.
• Lines on basketball court need to be redone.
Ivy Hills Park
• New tennis court surface looks great!
• Fencing is rusting and will need attention at some point in the
future.
• Parking boards on west side of tennis court need to be replaced.

FROM: Sloan Wallgren, Recreation Program Coordinator
SUBJECT: May/June Par 3 Update
Update
The golf course remained very busy during the months of May and June. We were only closed a
few days due to rain and cold weather. Our Women's League and Junior Leagues are all up and
running. We have over 150 in our Junior Golf Leagues, over 200 in our Golf Camps and 60
participants in our Women's League.
Our Footgolf remains very popular. We should saw a very nice increase in revenue for the month
of June. Footgolf has brought many new people to the golf course and community, and remains
to be a good alternative to golf. We have received many great reviews about the course layout,
and only a handful of complaints from golfers. Most customers are happy to see kids and families
out supporting the course and getting physical activity.
We have several events planned for the month of July. On July 18th we have a group of 30 golfers,
on July 25th we have a group of 50 footgolfers, and on July 31' we have 60 kids coming to play
the golf course as part of the Minnesota Junior PGA Summer Tour.
Maintenance Update
The golf course is in great shape and we have received many compliments about the conditions of
the golf course. We have made several purchases over the last 2 months: we bought a new 30
gallon gas tank for diesel fuel ($450), new umbrellas for the patio ($300), new ball washers for the
course ($1,000) and a new mower ($650) for the golf course which will be used to verticut the
greens and tees and will serve as a backup greens mower in case ours goes down.
