Mock Crash
On May 7, Mendota Heights and West St. Paul police, fire and paramedic staff performed a mock crash at
Sibley High School. The exercise was meant to inform students on the dangers of drinking and driving.
The Sun Current, South West Review and Thisweek newspapers all published photos of the event (see
attached). Congratulations to all of you who helped make this mock crash successful.
It’s Garage Sale Time
Have you noticed all of the garage sale signs around town? This weekend (May 15 – 17) is the Annual
All Community Garage Sale. The Mendota Heights Fire Auxiliary sponsors the event.
Fire Sprinkler Demonstration Trailer
On Wednesday night, the Fire Department hosted a training session using a fire sprinkler demonstration
trailer provided by the state Fire Marshal's Office. The trailer is used to give live fire demonstrations
showing the benefits of automatic sprinkler systems in homes. The class was a “train the trainer” class
and many departments were represented.
The trailer will be a highlight at this year’s Fire Department Open House to demonstrate the benefits of
the fire sprinkler (the "instant firefighter").
Chief Maczko Recognized
On Wednesday night Fire Chief John Maczko was recognized for his six years of service to the
Minnesota State Fire Department Association. Chief Maczko served as the Region 1 Director to the
Association until his resignation in January of this year. The region represents Fire Departments in
Ramsey, Washington and Dakota Counties. Chief Maczko was presented a nice plaque from the region.
The Chief has also served as the President and Vice President of the region.
Fishing Report
Ira Kipp, a resident of Roger’s Lake reports that fishing is great, “really amazing”. He reports seeing
several anglers with five-gallon pails full of small to medium size sunfish and crappies. He said that on
th
Monday night, May 12, he watched as fifteen to twenty people standing on the fishing pier were
catching fish (no bullheads) almost every time they put their lines into the water. Mr. Kipp called a
second time to report that lots of sunfish and crappies were being caught along with some perch, a nice
size bass (1 – 1.5 lbs), a large northern and some small 5” long baby northerns. The bass and northerns
were returned to the lake.
